Powder coat ral number

Doesn't anyone off hand know what ral number closely matches the red on the 2014 le ? I would like to get my running board inserts powder coated and they need an ral number . Anyone have an idea ?

both of those are cardinal numbers , but they should be able to translate that to RAL i would think . thanks.

From what I understand , it's tricky as it can soften the aluminum so it has to be a low temp powder coat.

Yeah that's what I have heard. What is the temperature difference to anodizing?

Good question Cody , I have read comments recommending the anodizing over the powder coat for anything that really gets stressed.

Akpowderhound , that looks fantastic , nice job. Unfortunately I had to choose a ral number not a cardinal number , I chose 3003 , hopefully it's close .

Tunnel wise... you cant anodize it... Well, I guess if you wanted to remove the machine inserted rivets and pop rivets.... and remove the bulkhead.... possible.

Tunnels have been powdercoated... and the adhesive can soften, but if you secure it in a fixture....no issues with the adhesive...but as mentioned, can cause problems with the aluminum if you do not have a top notch powdercoater that can monitor the temperatures and cycle times correctly.

IMO... MUCH easier to paint the tunnel with a good urethane paint like U-Tech or other.

Anodizing is done at room temp!
Some Anodizers use a +-170° bath for cleaning parts.

Anodize is a chemical & controlled oxidation of aluminum, where dye is added to give color!

Powder coat is well... a powdered coating! baked onto conductive metals

Do you think that paint would stand up on your rails and spindles. It'll scratch sure but will it wear from snow and grass?

The factory paint you mean ? If so , I haven't had any yet that haven't worn off easily , it seems like they all use cheap paint that doesn't bond well. Well at least my cat sure didn't , that crap chipped and flaked from snow fall I'm sure .

I wonder what would be the best paint for use on a tunnel??

On the tunnel...

Good prep is the super important.

Wash and degrease, Scotch brite very thoroughly and then use a self etching primer.

I'm a big fan of the U-Tech 1 stage catalized urethane paints... Super durable and can be mixed to match. Super tough and used on fleet trucks and aircraft.
