Ok so im a total Newbie so please bare with me! I have been looking all the posts over and want to do a few things to my 03 900. First of all i want to move the steering post forward and have read a few posts on hereabout it but need a few clarifications to make it happen 1: do i need to buy a kit from cr racing or someother maker with an offset post? 2: do i have to lose the airbox and go to filter pods? Hearing some conflickting Info so any REAL info from someone who has done this would be Very Much appreciated!!
Thanks

Bring on the SNOW!!!!!:beer;:beer;:beer;

I am doing Wildchilds on an '03 (BTW the quality is outstanding). From what I have been told, you can keep the airbox (which I highly recommend), just need to notch the motor mount a bit.

You have a couple of choices when you buy a wildchild post.

1. Go with the rider forward post, stock or extra length and move post in front of support and notch hood.
2. Go with a wildchild post, add extra length, and have him bend it above the bushing. You have to notch the plastic piece where stock post comes out.
3. Wildchild post, stock configuration and add a riser to move post over.

These are the order I would do them. You can run the airbox with all three above. I currently have choice #3 and will be going to choice #1. A friend has choice #2 and likes it.

I have a combination of 2 and 3 above. I have a Wildchild post that is 2 inches taller and 1 inch forward with an Ole's riser. This setup seems to work pretty well and I didn't have to do anything but bolt it all together.

You get the bars in the same position with that setup. But only if you never turn. The issue with the offset riser is you are no longer just rotating your handlebars, they are also revolving around the axis of the steering post. It feels very strange not to have them just rotate. You want to keep the center of the bars as close to inline with the post as possible.

I noticed this at first but only for a couple of rides. Do you think it just feels odd or does it actually effect handling?

It feels odd enough to me that I don't like riding sleds that are set up that way, so to me, it affects handling.

If you are used to it and don't mind, it probably doesn't make a difference.

I don't know that I can ride well enough for it to matter:D

I have a Ole's plate and riser on my forward post. I've only rode with the Ole's riser and plate a few times but didn't notice it. I haven't rode with the forward post, well see if I notice both together.

I think the Ole's set up is pretty hard to beat. Those pivot risers that other company's sell just slip when rode hard.

I went with the Ole's riser, and love it. :) I haven't noticed any difference in handling, or handling poorly is maybe what I should say. Having my bars higher, and more forward was definitely a plus for me, and a lot less expense and time into project.

Here's CR racings version

I moved the post forward, use the stock airbox. I had to trim the aluminum bracket that holds the oil and coolant bottle. Did not touch the motor mount.
