Portal Creek, North of Big Sky

Has anyone ridden this area before? I heard its kinda tricky getting into. I ride around the area and usually go 2 Taylor Fork, Cabin Creek, And behind Lionshead. I was thinking of going back there this winter. Any Info?

ive seen that on google earth, huge open ridge, just seems like a really long ways to get into for limited riding. all day would be used to get in.

Like all riding areas, depends upon what you like...this is NOT the least technical riding area....and is not big open bowls like a revelstoke, but it has some KILLER riding in it...cannot attach a google earth file, but here are the coordinates for you...

Fun riding area, A little tricky to get to get up there. Not a huge area but if you hit it on a pow day it is great.

MT, do you cut up into the bowl you gave Co-ords for, or do you ride to the end of the road, and the cut up onto the top of the ridge, the south east corner of it looks like a really good time, and its not as far in as i though. an i assume that road never gets plowed as it goes nowhere?

I have not checked travel cooridore maps since they redid some areas....but there is a road ride in from Moose Creek that can get you in therealmost all the way up topn and you can pick your way to the upper basin, from there, there is a deceoptive amount of riding...I think it is trail 6964....or you can go up the canyon, Portal Creek Road, and there is a path that takes off to the left and up to intercpet that trail...


it is not anywhere near as open and big country as taylors and other areas, but on good pow days or really busy weekends, it doenst get hammered as much, and it is closer to Bzn...

It does soundlike a place to go to when buck and taylor are packed. i will have to wait and see.
