Poor Toyota and Ford

Who said anything about being a burden on society?

Just for example...the Toyota dealer that i was associated with, in a tiny city, employed roughly the same number of people as the western Toyota Canada head office that services the entire province. The benefits to the average person in terms of job and income generation are in manufacturing, dealer networks, transportation, etc. the head offices are tiny, with few jobs. The owners/CEOs/Etc are massively wealthy people who need no help from you or me whatsoever. I could give a damn where they live. So for the stuff that matters, a company like Toyota is very similar to the big 3.

Wow got some people fired up just cause I support America.

Good for toyota and their cute little city trucks for putting American's to work. I will always support working Americans. However you can't argue the fact the the majority of toyotas money is going to Japan to their home office. While the big 3's HOME office is right here in America. And also the big 3 will and always will employ MORE American's (Which is awesome) Even our NEIGHBORS in Canada are getting some good from the BIG 3. Which is good also. Rather help them out then the little guys who make my ipad, tv, and yes my snowmobile motor dang it.. and all that other crap none us can live without.

And don't get me started about toyota building a quality TRUCK.. Its a quality overgrown car boys. Until we see Toyotas being USED for true TRUCK work everyday like in the oil fields, coal mines, fighting fires, ambulances, and so on, and so on and so on don't even try to convince me they are better TRUCKS.. they are simply not. When was the last time you saw a toyota flat bed with a welder on it? haha. I have never.. But I guess until honda puts a welder attachment on its plastic box ridgeline toyota will not look into it.

Again Go America and Go to the BIG 3 for building us TRUCKS in AMERICA !!! After all that is what I was talking about.

Sorry to make the overgrown camry fans mad..:face-icon-small-con
Keep dreaming big, some day you will upgrade to a real truck that will help MORE Americans then your camry ever did..

I like American vehicles just fine, I have owned 2 gms, a ford, a dodge and a vette. Boat is American and sled is American. All mostly paid for by working for Toyota. I have also owned some toyotas, Hondas, nissans, bmws, a dodge, etc...and have bought, sold, traded, and driven literally hundreds of vehicles. I hate to pump my own tires, but I would bet my house I have been in a wider variety of vehicles than the vast majority of people, particularly those my age. Toyota makes a high quality vehicle, there is no denying that. Doesn't mean they are for everyone, but they are reliable and pound for pound take abuse better than any other auto I've seen.

I have sold Toyota trucks to many people for logging, hunting, guiding, forest fire fighting, tree planting, timber cruising, stubbing telephone poles, construction, you name it. You don't see them in fleets as much because they have a cap on the number of fleet units they wish to sell (I can elaborate on that if you like).

If you need a 1-ton diesel, hey they don't make that....but the stuff they do make is always solid and competitive. Not to mention...stood behind out of warranty like no other manufacturer. I don't work with the anymore and don't care if they do well or not....but them are the breaks. I don't even love them enough to neg rep captain America in return lol

@WYOAC700-I can see by your last statement that you haven't understood a word anyone has said. If I apply your logic to sleds it could be said that Polaris sleds aren't real sleds because they don't make a 4 stroke. Same goes for Toyota, just because they choose not to make a 3/4-1 ton truck with a diesel doesn't mean their current truck is junk or can't compete with trucks in its class.

But of course your point is, big three rock yota sucks. I get it, I use to say that all the time in grade school. Keep that mantra, it will take you far in life.

like i said I'm a Chevy guy all the way, and am all about buying and supporting american companys but I'd be willing to bet money that if toyota did come out with a heavy duty truck with a reliable diesel they would make a pretty good dent in the american diesel market. people seem to like toyotas so they must be doin something right, this past summer for a hunting rig i picked up a 97 tacoma with close to 300k miles on it that had lead a pretty rough life and even when i had it on jack stands with basically the whole front suspension out of it a neighber i'd never met came down and offered to buy it from me. the quality must not be that bad with the cult following they have.

that's cuz they're f'ing expensive, k so if toyota made a good hd diesel that didn't cost $30k more than the american trucks they would make a dent. you can't argue that those who like toyota really like toyota.

^ Agreed.

On a side note....GM is going to be first to market with a mid-sized diesel pickup in the new Canyon/Colorado. Toyota really missed the boat, as they've had the parts on the shelf to build a diesel Tacoma in the North American market for 20 years. I always HATED the Colorado/Canyon as it was a horrible little thing, but the restyle looks much better, and with a little 4cyl Duramax (2.8L I believe), I bet they will steal some Tacoma wind for sure....

I'm excited about the new Canyon coming out. The 2.8l duramax is going to be a sweet motor. Plus the major update on that truck is nice. Fully boxed frame, new interior. New technology.

I'm penciling myself in for one.

It sounds like Toyota and Nissan are soon to have a Cummins diesel in their new trucks. You're also seeing Jeep, BMW, Mercedes, Mazda, Audi, put smaller diesels in their crossovers in 2014. I just wish GM would slap their 4.5L Duramax in a 1/2 ton and the Suburban and not just the mid-size trucks. Regardless of how they all do at 25mph on a test track it will be fun to see some good changes coming.

Never owned a Toyota...hardly ever ridden in one...However my neighbor drove one for years on his ranch, and to say that he was tough on trucks was an understatement, anyway his Toyota's served him well, and all his neighbors were impressed with the TOYOTA durability, since Chuck bless his soul was just down right abusive to those Toyota's. I am a believer, but will never own one.

I wonder how many jobs this will give Americans? Wow, and I thought GM was all for keeping jobs in the good ol U.S. of A.

SHANGHAI— General Motors Co. GM -0.38% said its Shanghai GM joint venture received permission from Chinese authorities to build an eight billion yuan ($1.3 billion) factory to manufacture its Cadillac brand, boosting the auto maker's ambition of becoming a larger player in China's booming luxury-car market.

Kind of the flip-side of why foreign car makers started making cars here. Gives the purchaser a warm-fuzzy feeling doesn't it?

It makes financial sense for them to manufacture vehicles in china that are being sold in China. I don't think the concept is that hard to understand. The cars made there are very different than vehicles made here. They are not as nice, not as safe, less technology, more polluting, better margins.
