Poor mans build?

K
So I see everyone must still be waiting on turbo kits and 174" for there 2012 sleds cause not much seems to be happening. So is anyone interested in seeing my poor mans build on my old 99 700 cat until someone with more money has something happening to wow us?

I love poor mans build, almost more then $30K builds. A poor mans sled is way more fun when your not worried about ANYTHING while riding. Go heavy on the pictures.

Ok sounds good, I bought this sled when I was 20(6yrs ago), it is a 99 700 zr, it had an elkholm tunnel and was dropped and rolled by the dealer. since then I have rebuilt it several times and learnt lots. Due to building a house, recent wedding, school and building a career the pro-climb 1100t will have to wait, and I really do love this sled. current upgrades are:
Mild porting and polishing
boyesen power reeds
Gutted airbox
Snow stuff stinger
AEM af gauge
144x16 ported track
Titanium jack shaft
Extroverts
Tall m8 style bars
2003 zr plastics

Planned upgrades:
1m tank (half installed)
wrp mountain assault set (on the way)
remove hood foam and reflective tape
Shave heads .010"
custom fuel rack
LED tail light
first pics is the sled before body, second is after.

So I got the seat last night, and test fit it on the sled and I will need to reuse my seat wedge as the 99 tunnel does not have the angle in it that the 1m does. This seat is alot taller that I expected it would be, might need bar risers still.

I was wondering about that, do you just move the steering post from where its mounted on the top mount, below the bars and swap it to the other side to move it forward?

this is with the seat just sitting there, plan to take it to work this week and finish it up, going to paint the seat wedge orange to match the gas rack.

I was trying to figure out what to use for light weight tail lights and where to mount them, when I looked at one of the ambulances I work out of and it had led button lights, quick trip to napa and a 3/4 inch whole saw and problem solved. Drilled them into the seat wedge.

See this is some modifying on a sled. You don't have to have and unlimited checkbook to make a nice one of a kind sled.

That is a great idea and it saves weight to!

ok so the florescent orange failed cause it doesnt cover worth crap and arctic cat doesnt sell paint, also discovered some maintenance issues while working on it this week, three leaky rad hoses, spring slider wore out and spring tension block busted(rear skid), limiting straps way too loose(might have something to do with the three foot trench this thing leaves everywhere). But I did get some progress. Im loving it. The button lights are great, light weight and out of the way, the seat is very comfy to sit on and out of the way when standing (of course no actual ridding time yet, lots of pretend while making braap noises) and the new new fuel rack might actually hold something.

ok not alot going on with the sled right now, but I think Im going to pop the seat wedge off and get rid of the black paint, looks cheap, and I think Im going to grab the ol aluminum polishing kit out and polish the tunnel and wedge instead :face-icon-small-hap. And if anyone has any suggestions on what else I can do to make this beast unique or better let me know. but here is a photo of it on the ground anyway.
