Polaris Safety Issues

I bought two used 2008 550 LX sleds in the USA this spring, imported them into Canada and was subsequently advised by the previous owner of a safety recall related to the starter ring gear on the primary clutch. Apparently the gears need to be replaced. I called my Canadian Polaris dealer and was advised that they would not complete the SAFETY recall as the sleds were purchased in the US. I called Polaris and they confirmed that in order for the recall to be completed I would have to take the sleds to a dealer in the US. Am I wrong here or in the interest of consumer safety should Polaris fix the problem no matter where the sleds came from or are currently located? I have owned 10 different Polaris sleds and have serious reservations about buying any more Polaris products when safety is secondary to where I choose to buy Polaris products

hey thanks for the info looking a sled in the from idaho i,m in bc lhas extended warranty that is transferable but do you think this in the case also

They started this a few years back to keep buyers in the US from purchasing machines in Canada and taking advantage of the exchange rate

I bought an 04 vertical escape and imported it into canada last fall and it had a cracked filler neck on the gas tank local dealer had a new tank for me in about 3 days and they knew the sled was from the U.S.

people taking advantage of the exchange rate is one thing but it shouldnt matter when it comes to saftey the dealer should repair the recall if its a safety issue but if its a standard non saftey recal then i can see bringing it back to the place where it was purchaced from.
