so i got the stock p85 out of my dad's '05 RMK 900, um what all needs to be done to get it on my mountain max?

also, what clutching and gearing should i do with aaen triples, and a 151" ?

Should go right on with your yami bolt. You will need a custom puller though. With a stock secondary I ran a Hartman billet helix, 43/36? (been awhile) Heavy hitter spring. Came with Thundershift kit. For the primary I had a blk/grn spring and 10-58 weights. 3k to 6k elevation 19/40 gearing. 200 lb. rider geared up.

alright thanks for the info guys.

ever get your MM sold rynokron? and LOL @ your avatar

Why are we putting Polaris parts on our Yamaha's??? What is the advantages of the P85?

Pm me your email addy and I'll send you a spreadsheet with several good set up's, with benders but they will be close.
Tom Hartman is the guy to dial it in quickly though.

The P-85 is a good clutch and the weights are cheaper than Yamaha's. I have one on my backup sled and it works better than the stocker that cracked up.

Absolutely zero probs with the Yamaha clutch if you know how to tune em. They crack due to excessive heat in the shives from the ultra hard 8dn belt slipping. Proper clutch tuning totally eliminates this issue.

I would have to agree 100%. The MtMax used the same clutch that is on the Apex. Many Apex's out there with 250+hp and still using the stock clutches. They work great, WHY would you mess around with a P85? Eric

Yeah I have a MSRX that used to eat up the yamaha belts and it would slip causing high RPM's 9000+, so I talked to a guy that worked on the yamaha race team he recommended a certain set of weights (01 SRX) and it cured the problem and the RPM's hit 8600 and lock in. (also went with Gates Extreme Belt)

I agree, no need to change out the yami clutch unless it's worn out which is why I threw one on.
Keep the clutch and belt clean and they last a long time, virtually trouble free.

well then nevermind lol :)

i thought the p85 was way better than the yami clutch since everyone seems to run them on everything..

my clutch is just fine though..so i'll save my self the time and money.

what should i do to my clutch though? it's still got stock clutching and gearing..will a multi angle helix help that much? i'm not too smart on clutching..yet

i'm 16 so i'm trying to get the best bang for my buck.

You want to clutch your sled so it maxes out right at or 1-200 rpm above your peak hp rpm. Ideally you want rpm,s to start at 1-200 rpm below peak hp & climb to 1-200 rpm above peak hp at full throttle for mountain riding.
This gives you best aceleration & backshift.

probably just going to add some heavier weights to increase the clamping pressure on the belt to reduce slippage. But guys like Hartman have played with all the combos and he will know what works and what doesn't work. www.hartmaninc.com

or you could always pick turks mind a little, based on my experience, he may have a little more in the bag than tom. i know this contradicts my previous post on this subject, but then we took the p-85 out of the equation. turk spends way more time in the test and tune department than tom. sorry tom, i know i have picked your brain over the years, but, if turk offers an opinion, pay attention. mm700: at 16 years old, damn proud of you for paying attention.
