So for only $8-900 I can add a gps to my sled?
Why does this not seem like a good deal?
Does it even work with pull start sleds? Gotta add a battery or only use it with the sled running?

Its a bit pricey but I got mine through snowcheck. Didn't really cost much more then. Problem for you guys in the mountains is you do need a battery to use it to full potential. You don't need one to use it but every time you shut sled off it will power down and loose satellite signal. Once the machine is started up it will boot back up. The other issue is reverse. Every time you reverse the gauge will shut down and boot up, same for switching back to forward. Might get a bit annoying.

All snowchecked sleds that came with the IDD came with a battery whether or not they had electric start. One nice thing is I can power up the gauge without starting the sled. This allows me to update and trip plan without the sled running. Perhaps Polaris will have some sort of lightweight mini battery for RMK's next year. There is a tonne of info over on HCS in the AXYS platform board. Even a sticky on it.

There are some really nice lightweight batteries out there now.

EarthX
Murph sells a really lightweight batter--SpeedCell
WPS has one that weighs the same as Murph's battery. I've held them side by side...They are virtually identical in weight.

Got it on my 15 I used AMP gauge lifter and had to mod it a bit. I have e start and works with the sled not running it's awesome.

Anyone install one of these on a pre 2015 Pro RMK? If so, is there any functionality not available to pre 15 sleds?

Get their trail app on your phone and thats basically what it is. Its for trails, known trails.... Not cut blocks. It also is horrible in canada.

i've been running IDD on my 15' rmk for 500 miles or so. No complaints, used it to navigate around keeweenaw last weekend.

got me to one heck of good spot to take a cool photo. ;P

Are these worth the money?
How good is the gps? Does it work in the back country?

I've used my IDD for three trips. Yes the GPS tracking is certainly useful and easy to use / follow. On my last trip on the Big Sky trail south of W. Yellow. we were back in at least 20 miles and off the trail. The clouds rolled in quickly and really made my sense of direction get fouled up but I just looked down at the IDD track and followed it back to the trail I left coming into the area. I also have a Garmin 655 two way radio with GPS but the screen is so small and without glasses I can't use it well. Plus it is not handy with gloves on. the IDD is easy to use while driving and with gloves on or off and is big enough to read without glasses for me. (I'm far sighted 71 years old). It is a rather expensive GPS but has many other features that some riders may appreciate but the cell phone connection program is not for me since having a cell phone on is a problem with the Avy Beacon's ability to search for victims so my friends and I all turn our cell's off when we ride. Polaris you should do some research on this matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!! before offering the IDD with cell phone connection. I also can say that the GPS tracking is very handy on the confusing trails out of W. Yellowstone also. The major trails are loaded so they show on the map. You can zoom in or out to get additional perspective on where you are or are going. I like the IDD.

Pro RMK snowchecked sleds could not order the IDD that I know of. Mine came separate. It was not the best deal from Polaris for 2015. Free electric start but not the IDD.:face-icon-small-fro
