Polaris factory tether install ?

I feel like an idiot having to post this but something isn't adding up here. I have the factory tether that I need to install on a 16rmk. I've confirmed it is the right tether but I can't figure out for the life of me how to connect the wiring portion of this tether. Something just isn't adding up... and I've read the directions more than a few times.

Would somebody mind posting a couple pictures of how their factory tether is wired/connected in? My dealer is hundreds of miles away so I don't have the luxury of just taking it back. Was supposed to be installed from the dealer but polaris shipped them the wrong one.

Any help please?

Go to the search on this forum and type tether wiring, I'm pretty sure there is a few lines on the subject. My computer illiteracy keeps me from sending it to you.
Use the search in the grey bar above the chat box.

You don't use the 2 extra wires. Just tape them up. Just plug the square one into the one that matches it in the bag below the handlebars

mine was plug and play. there is a velcro pouch directly under the console containing the sled side plug, you have to pull that wire out of the velcro pouch and plug into your tether. Now if your tether has no terminal on it, then you have to get creative and either splice in or get the correct terminals to make contact with that plug.

i removed my hood and a couple bolts to free up the console so i could dremel a hole for the tether. it was pretty easy get it installed..maybe took 30 minutes farting around.

Polaris tether #2874379 is plug and play.

In the pic, to the left you see the bundle of connectors in the bag below the steering post. You can see the male plug come out near the fuel tank breather, with the female plug brown and black being from the tether.

Literally doing this right now .. Munster finger throttle while I have this connector bundle exposed! :face-icon-small-coo

Thanks - this was really helpful. The directions that were included with my tether kept saying to "unplug the ignition switch" and connect the tether. I kept looking at the back of the ignition switch going uhhhh.... Makes sense now though and it's installed and working. Thats for the pictures and descriptions.

Save yourself some Money and get the Polaris tether Part # 4010849
It is the same tether switch as the Polaris tether kit #2874379
Just doesn't include with the confusing instructions and the 2 zip ties...

Installed 2 of them tonight- also install a small Phillips screw in the female end ( the rubber plug cap)
Keeps the tether from cutting out / by allowing a full compression of the ignition circuit

Plug and play and save some $$$- along the way !

Moisture trouble with any wires/connectors

hey,

I added the Polaris tether (this thread was helpful, thank you). I wrapped the tether cord into the Velcro, but it's not as 'sealed' as new.

Has anybody had issues with snow getting into the wiring/connectors in that general area under the handlebar that has caused runability issues?

I am considering putting some duct tape in the area.

thanks

One easy preventative measure is: Unplug, fill connectors with dielectric grease, replug and let er rip.

diaeletric grease

thanks--should I apply grease to the inner metal prongs and plastic or just on the outside/plastic housing?

Just to the male/female connections- inside of each other( outside doesnt do squat) and don't go crazy with it as that will cause more problems-
Your just trying to keep water out not the ocean

new tether - no start engine ...

Hi , 2016 Polaris Pro RMK 800 we installed the original tether # 2874379, where it belongs. We tensile starter, 1 x we started, snapped the tether, the engine stalled, but since then never did not start - the engine does not start. We checked the electrics, the starter gives a spark to the spark plug, the control unit diagnosis shows no error, injections work, candles are fine, or it did not come even on the new candles. When candles taken out, they are wet, it looks like it was full of motor gasoline.

Not with someone also have this (negative) experience and knows the solution?
Thanks for help.

Candles==> Spark plugs

Try holding down the plunger (electric switch) in the center of tether base down. You may need to add a small screw-- like Sage Crusher posted above-- to fully depress the tether switch and allow the engine to start.

Touch of lube, I use dielectric, inside the tether female will allow it to slide on and off the male post way easy, FWIW. Should be done for every poo tether.
