Polaris 900- Opinions Please!

My friend is looking to Purchasing a 2006 Polaris 900 with SLP Box and Y pipe, head, and airbox. From what I've seen, they run like crap and overheat alot, but that could be just me. Or does the SLP treatment listed here cure that problem? Can I have some feedback on them from anyone who has ridden/ridden with this sled? Thanks in advance.

They run like crap??? hmm, they have issues like the rest, get them taken care of and you'll love your 900!

I've heard the '06 was a lot better than the '05, and once you do all the updates it isn't a bad sled.. If it were me, I wouldn't buy one, buy an older edge or gen 2, and dump the extra money into cutting weight and the motor and you'll have a killer sled... my gen 2 will spank the newer ones all over the mountain.

900 RMK, not so bad...

The 900 Polaris Rmk was one of the most over engineered sleds ever built at the time. However, after some intial problems and some very poor support from Polaris, it never had the opportunity to get refined and fully dialed by the Factory guys, much less proper training of the Service Departments or Mechanics. After two seasons of problems the sleds were mothballed, or "temporarly shelved".

It was too bad that it had "issues" from release, but it is most unfortunate that they did not stick with it for one more season, for they would have gotten on top of the issues and had a great sled.

As the above poster mentioned, check in on the 900 Polaris section for the full scoop and details.

Many of the original 900 owners have had a love-hate relationship with these sleds. They can be very good once the issues are dealt with. The chassis is great, the engine had some issues.

My 05 900 RMK 159" track has over 9000 miles on it now, and it will soon be over 10,000 miles. It is on the second crank, which was changed by Polaris under warranty at 3300 miles, they updated the Pistons at this time, the engine has not been apart since.

The sled as released had several issues, (which are detailed in the appropriate 900 Forum section), but once you have dealt with these gremlins, you can enjoy a great sled at a bargain price, but be forewarned, unless you are mechanically inclined and have the resources and time to do your own work, it could be an uphill struggle, as the Dealers are of very little use, ..in fairness they never had the "time to get properly acquainted" with the 900.

Hope this helps with your decision. Cheers

Oops..., I forgot to add that my 900 flat out rips, I use it hard every day, it climbs well, boondocks great and it's a tractor when it comes to pulling out other wounded sleds..., ..the reason I still ride it; ..I haven't seen anything significantly better, in stock trim, from any of the OEMs as yet. However, my next sled will be a boosted four stroker...!!

A gen 2 spanking a 9? Not happening.

I'm comparing apples to oranges here (not stock for stock), however it's all about power to weight ratio, my sled is 70 lbs lighter than a 900, my motor puts out what just about what a 900 does, and my suspension is better than a 900's.

But at the end of the day, I'm tapped for mods less a turbo, nitrous. The 900 isn't.

I have an 06 9, before that an 04 800ve. While it took me two years to dial in the 9 I hated it. 99.9% of all my problems were from a faulty stator. That being said once I changed it, there is no chance of the egde chassis coming anywhere near it. This thing absol. rips. The bad thing about byeing a 900 is you can potentially get one big pita. On the flip side, for the money you can pick one up for, you wont find that kind of performance.

Well Put Cpt. Ron.

Once dialed in these sleds will rock. I followed the advice of the more experienced 900 owners when I bought my 05 900 and it runs like a raped ape, it will hang with my buddies piped 06 and I have yet to have a mechanical problem with it inthe 300 miles I have got on so far this season(aside from a spindle bolt adjuster nut vibrating loose:eek::confused::eek:)

All in all I am beside myself how much I enjoy this sled after coming off an 800 Edge... the edge might get the hole shot in a drag race, but this puppy has torque:eek::D:beer;

Had 800 Edge and no matter what you do to them Trailing arms SUCK AZZ !! As does the crank !!
If you don't know..don't go!
