Polaris 900 oil pump

Anyone know what the difference is from an 2005 to 2006 oil pump? They are different part numbers and stamped different on the arm of the pump. Will a 2006 work on a 2005?

i cant imagine whats different, i have both the 06 and 05 900s and they look identical?

there are some used pumps on ebay, you might find what you need there?

They have two different part numbers and the 05 one is more expensive. Anybody on here know what the heck is different?

I have had a 05 and 06 in hand at same time and the only thing I see is the 90 deg. on the top of the pump have longer brass inserts about 1/16 and the alignment mark on the pump is different (lower on the 06 so leaner) what I really want to know will a 06 work on the 05 because I bought an 06 not knowing they were different.

if it bolts on and you know where the alignment marks on the 05 are supposed to be I would try it and adjust it like your 05 pump would be. Then monitor how much oil it uses.

ya that was what i was thinking, will try it tommorrow night the problem was it was useing way to much oil and I found out it had a 2006 pump already on it so I am hoping the pump is bad was just trying to see if anyone knew if it would work for sure befor bolting it on to have the same problem. Because for some reason I don't know you can't put a 06 pump on a 05.

how much oil were you using?

did you notice if the oil level in the bottle using less oil AFTER it got below the oil line that comes off the bottle to the just above the oil pump?

if you have bad center crank seals, you will use a ton of oil, and the only way to know for sure is if the oil level drains fast until it gets even with the hose coming from the bottle...then the oil usage is slower after that?

was using a ton only when engine was running it never leaked down in to the crankcase when not running never let it go bellow the fitting to see but I did pressure test the cross shaft area to 10 psi and it held for over 24 hrs even when pulled over by recoil so I dont think it is the crank seals but I could be wrong after I get the new pump on I will only fill the oil tank just above the fitting to see.

a ton...i would say IF someone was to have a bad center crank seal...it would suck the oil level to the hose in half a tank max...

was using about 1' from top of bottle in 10 miles. all i can do is try the oil pump and if it does not work run the oil down to the fitting in the tank at see what happens I guess.

Just need to clarify how the oiling works as you increase the throttle. Do you inject more oil or less oil. I had a problem with my oil cable. Engine was running poorly and when I changed the plugs, noticed they were quite black so running rich. Got it back to the shop, I found a lot of oil around the oil pump due to an exhaust gasket starting to leak. After digging a little deeper, I notice the adjustment on the pump was way off. Mark was as far clockwise as it could be. Oil cable was broke. With the cable rotated clockwise, was the engine being fed too little or too much oil.
Lookin at getting a FBF replacement cable.

Get the FBF for sure. He has them in stock now. I had mine in the shop three times with the stock cable because I thought it was using to much oil. Now with the FBF on it and a pint of oil per 5 gallons in the tank for break in it still does not smoke as much as it did with the stock POS.

Yes when the cable goes the pump will default to wide open and pump to much oil.
