I have an '99 Polaris RMK and after 1850 miles started having some trouble. I've read a few posts about the 550's that said they were crappy but all the posts I read were about newer machines. I this a crap motor in this year as well or did the change something after, also if they are crap is ther anything that can be done to keep them running cooler?

2002 550 SS
We've got a 550 SS in a 2002 Edge. Haven't had any issues. We've had it out west and then run in MN. 2700 miles so far.
My mom has it in a Trail 2000 and the ATAAC acted up, went lean. Put new piston, honed cylinder, removed ATAAC and no more problems.
What did yours do?

Leaned out twice, once blamed on old gas, like 10 miles later did again blamed it on being jetted wrong, now piston and pot are scored badly on the exaust side not sure what caused it, sled probably only has 120 miles since the first time.

I run 270 main jets with #2 on the needle. I ride at 800 ft.
Mine is a 2002 so I can't comment on whether needles changed? According to the Owners manual supplement it's a 6BGY16 needle.
