ATTN: Anyone and all who care about off-road usage/travel in the national forests during summer months,
Those of you out there that ride the Plumas National Forest in the summer months, whether it may be dirt biking, jeeping, 4-wheeling, rangering, razoring, atving, wood cutting, gold mining, hunting, fishing, etc, if you are UNAWARE of what's happening to your forest then you should tune in immediately and step up. The Forest Service has instituted a Motorized Travel Management Plan for the Plumas National Forest, (as well as many other forests in Cali & across the Nation,) that has literally closed many trails and roads that have been open for travel forever.
What this means to you... effectively your outdoor recreation pleasures will soon be gone. Forget about cutting firewood for your wood stove to stay warm all winter while you are out shredding the GNAR, forget about riding your Polaris Ranger up to your favorite peak in the summer to check out the view, and forget about that summer camping/fishing trip you had planned. Even if you don't care about summer outdoor recreation, you will care in about five years when the Forest Service comes after the snowmobilers next when they are done with the summer time enthusiasts.
What you can do.... Write a short letter to your congressman. If you do nothing else, the one thing you can and should do is write a letter and submit it to our local representatives. Because at this point the only way we are going to win or even have a fighting chance in this battle is to get our local officials involved. The more letters and comments that they get from the public, the more inclined to act on our behalf they will be.
How you do it.... First start by writing you letter on the computer. Next proof read it, make sure it's clean, concise, and professional. Print it out and send it to:
Congressman Tom McClintock
8700 Auburn-Folsom Rd., Suite #100
Granite Bay, Ca 95746

and another thing you can do is join the Sierra Access Coalition. IT’S FREE!!! Get on their list of members. Their appeal against this management plan will carry much more weight the larger the list is.
The Sierra Access Coalition was founded by Mike Lazzarino, who is no longer with us, and Chadd Burroughs was also a well known member. Both of these guys fought and spent many hours and endless moments pushing to keep this access available to us. Without these vital members the Coalition has undoubtedly suffered, but this is where all of us come in. We have to pick up where they left off and not give up.
If you take nothing away from this message, know this… your tax dollars are hard at work by our very own US Forest Service; they’re out there spending your hard earned money working to close down our forest. The one thing they should be doing is figuring out how to manage our forest and not close it.
