plug your ported track holes

Interesting... just talked to a company who sells a product that pretty much fills in the hole in your stk doo track. They claim the holes suck in deep pow , enuff that they came up with this kit and are selling lots. hmmmmmmmmm

porting the track is the worse thing you can do for deep snow.

skidoo just wants the weight reduction.

Sorry , ya its not in there. They say its some kinda lexan plug that attaches with a rivet thru the track. They are supposed to send me a pic. I dunno , i cant see these staying on long . But... it does make you wonder if this porting idea is all so hot afterall. sj

If a ported track gave more flotation then the guys who need it most would be doing it and you don't see the water shipping guys chopping huge portions of the track out.

Whoever said ported tracks increase flotation was an idiot. They roll over easier and get the snow from around the skid out. It also reduces rotating mass.

In this thread, LHF and I agree.
Porting your track was not designed for floatation. Look at a newer set of snowshoes.....don't go there either. That arguement holds no ground.

Snow evacuation(Read zero snow in rear skid compared to full of snow skidframes), rolling resistance(read..single handed pushing, and rolling my sled across a concrete floor with minimal input), and weight loss(Usually between 3-4lbs) are the benefits. If your sled is set-up to benefit, it works great. In our BC powder. Can't comment on...for example Wash concrete. I know WASH guys have complaints about ice buildup in tunnels to the point that tracks have been known to lock up. Never had that issue in BC.......or, I should say, I've never heard of it.
420lb sled with 170hp and a 150" ported track works amazingly well compared to the old 151 non-ported I took off. With a sled that has all the tricks and lightweight parts.....the track, the way I have it, is my best purchase to date.

do they also have a kit to remove the plugs after they've been installed?

Like the rinse-lather-repeat gimmick the shampoo companies use! haha, someone's always working an angle. I put a new powerclaw on my ski-doo this year after running the stock ported track and I've been thinking about whether to port or not to port, It's not a real burly track so I think I'll leave it but it's good to know you can undo something if it proves to be a dumb idea.

I know a ported prk turns easy by hand but dont know how that translates once 150 hp is doing the work
I do know the less snow build up is bogus , i never see any diff
I dont know about the floatation and climbing issue , and thats my question.

imagine catchin them lil basterds in the beak when the come flying out of your buddies track ....

I've seen the differences many times. Add 2 inner wheels and you will virtually never have snow in your skidframe. Only what sticks to the Aluminum. I bugged one buddy for a solid season comparing our sleds after every ride. He finally ported his track and this season.....minor differences. He even acknowledges how little snow he is constantly packing around compared to last season.
Ask me which one removes snow better and I'll point out the 2 wheel kit does a better job than a ported track. But nonetheless, it helps.

I noticed mine was waaaaaay easier to pull out of the trench after I ported it because it was packing less snow. Hifax life also seems to be better but I'm not sure I can attribute that to the porting or not. I also agree with the comment on running 2 wheels, that also seemed to make a noticeable difference. Flotation, yeah it dry fluff its not as good but for the couple of days a year of that kind of riding I'll still port my track so its not such a PITA to pull outta the hole when I finally do get stuck.

You get stuck? That blows. What do you ride?
