Why do idiots play on the hills next big slides. These guys watched us take a friend out of the bottom of an avalanche that took his life. As we were headed out they start pounding on the hill right next to where Rob was killed. I thought for sure we would be digging them out. Just unreal.

you should have went over there and stopped them.. and asked if they could help you get your friend back..

We were in cooke city 7 years ago and helped some guys get there buddy out (he didnt make it).. a good wake up call for anybody..

Sad deal.. sorry to hear about your friend

You answered your own question. Idiots!! Its amazing how clueless people still are after all the deaths!

When did this go down? And where?

I was in Indian Creek on friday when the three guys from Idaho got killed and while we weren't in thier vicinity we knew something was going on because we saw the SAR helicopter flying around.

One guy in my group triggerd a small avy off and a rider from another group fired off a fairly big one.

After seeing two rider caused avys and a few natural ones we packed it in and went home.

All this and not to mention the group of ten or fifteen with not two beacons between them, I know I asked.

I can't imagine riding right next to a group recovering a friend, and especially not offering help. That's not how we roll around here (as the kids say).

Sorry to hear of your loss and godspeed my friend. Matt.

Here's a latest in the Kootenays in Yimr
check it out.
like why do people risk it?? its not worth it,your life can be taken so easy....
like the avy's can be low, med, high or extreme you should never trust what ever its at...
you always gotta be cautious
it's all gunna start sliding in the castlegar, nelson area...we just got hamemrd pretty hard with bout 4 feet of fresh on top of a crust layer

PLRMK, your exactly right buddy, some people would not know when the "Dumb stick" hit them right between the eyes.......

Extremely sorry for the loss of your friend, and then the sinking feeling you must have felt watching those idiots.

Sorry to hear that.

Been thinking the same thing all day about this sorta deal. Was playing up in IP yesterday and was looking at these 30ft hangers on the back side of 2top, you could see where one part had broke and slid. Spooked me looking at it from a mile away and sure enough as we were stopped some idiot comes busting out of the trees and high marks right up under em twice. Cringed seeing the guy do it. Some people just have no common sense.

He died On Friday and was recovered Saturday morning. This is at the north end of Priest Lake in North Idaho in the Trapper Peak area.

Jason....I agree

The really sad part is a lot of people right here on snowest will go bang those hills and come back and tell you how stable they are, when in fact with the ice layer and the new snow stable isn't possible.

We actually said between us that "well we'll be back tomorrow to get them out" At that point they had it coming to them. Pretty much suicide.

I had full intentions of heading to trapper on sat morning, bu when I heard about Rob, I told my group that there was no wa we were going in there in these comditions. we ended up hitting the nose side, which is much less dangerous, but still far from safe. I saw two slides triggered by riders of the same group on the same ridge at te same time. the slope was not too wind loaded, long or steep. we peeled out of there feeling it was our warning. on the way out we watched some fool pound for a highmark on the hill right where the cornice was biggest, the slope steepest and absolutely no place to go but through the strainer if it cracked......I just left, did not want to see it.

I just watched the "XP turbo" video that was offered to show the capabilities of that sled but he was climbing a big hill, along with another turbo D8, in 2 feet of powder. Now how the heck did they know that those two powerfull sleds would not trigger an avy? Or did they just decide to roll the dice? It's very confusing anymore. On one hand we preach being careful and on the other hand we're building more power and more traction so we can tackle bigger hills.:confused:

An avey isnt something you can always trigger. If the snow pack is stable you cant make it slide.

Re the idiots........just when you think you have heard it all........... And so sorry about Rob:(

Not true, cutting a potential tension zone can weaken a (so called) stable hill.
Take every hill into consideration for sliding. Just another reminder that the slopes are constantly changing. Especially with this warm weather. Melt freeze under the pack, on top. Wait till we get more snow on top of that.

To Rob and his friends and family. :rose:
