The government simply needs to get it's fingers off of the scales in all industries.
Let the free market determine who thrives, who struggles. If that means that it costs more to fly, then it should cost more to fly.

I clearly said that I disagree with government picking winners and losers.
I am against nearly all subsidies.
This is primarily why I didn't continue on the family farm.
I despised the idea of jumping through hoops to maximize program subsidies, and I couldn't see a path to make it without participation in the programs.
No, that isn't the question.
The question is why WAS is a good idea then, and why ISN'T it a good idea now. That's fine if you've been against it all along, but that isn't what was asked.
