Please be careful out there, still more Avy's

I was riding out of Mill Hollow today, up on the Duchesne Ridge, and upon turning out of the hill I noticed the top start to slide. Before I could get out of the way I was knocked off the sled and swimming in a sea of white, luckily when I stopped I was close enough to the top to get myself out. My sled was facing uphill and buried to the windshield. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THE TWO NICE GUYS WHO HELPED US DIG MY SLED OUT! Please ride smart out there with beacons. I liked the new beacon checking machine at the trailhead.

Wow, close call. Glad you are ok. I don't think the snowpack is gonna heal this winter. There has been a ton of close calls. Play smart boys.

Way to many close calls this year.

Did you submit this to the Utah Avalanche Center? I know they would love to have this information. They are having a class up there tomorrow and I am attendng along with a few people on here. I would love to know where that was at so we could head up and check it out and learn a bit about it.

Glad you are OK.

I can try and explain where it's at. As you head up past Mill Hollow Reservoir, up to where the snow measuring sign is, take a left towards the Duchesne Ridge, head back along the ridge to the highest point, and it is down on those south facing slopes about the 10,000 foot elevation line. I'll try and find GPS coordinates.

Yes be careful out there!

Last Thursday I was in an avalanche up near Super Bowl in the Uintas. Got to the top of a pretty good climb and everything broke below me. I saw it break right at the very first and followed my escape plan and was able to side hill out of it relatively fast. It was probably a 2 foot slab.

Yesterday up Farmington on a beautiful untracked North East facing slope I decided to make a nice side hill climb and things were going great until I decided to really cut hard and just go over the top, right when I did the mountain broke, my insticts were to keep going in the direction I was already headed so I kept it pinned and hit the wall of snow that did not break real hard with my track. Thankfully it took it and kept going up as the hill slid behind me. This slab was 3 foot deep and made a big pile at the bottom. It was about 100 feet across but only 200 feet long because that is all the climb was.

All this to say, there is still alot of Avy danger out there this year, be careful.

Seriously Pastor, it is time for you to get off the hills. If you have set off two avy's within a week or so you are doing something wrong. I'm not trying to be a jerk here or stir the pot, but you won't be able to ride out of every one. Please re-evaluate the conditions and where you are pointing your sled. I just want you to be safe!

Wow two in one week! It was my first Avy experience. I was riding a hill I had climbed for 15 or so years, it was the first time this year on the hills on that side. It is just scary unstable up there this year.

Pastor,

Third time is charm they say. Id be doing all I could to avoid the 3rd time. Not wanting to stir it up either as Mt. Goat stated. Just be safe and use that thing between your ears for something besides a hat rack. We were up by Duschene ridge on tuesday and looked at dropping in where the slide was as mentioned above. The "Force" told us not to. Just be careful out there.

It's a year ago today that my uncles and friends were buried in Alpine. We're lucky to have one of them still with us. Please be careful out there. The lost of such a good friend and family member hurts so many, as many of you know - especially today.

Prayers to my aunt and uncle who lost their brother and husband a year ago today.:brokenheart:

Wow....we rode lake creek today and headed back into Duschene and did see a few spots where ridges had slid but stayed in the trees and in the meadows and had a great time......glad you were safe.

I can't believe the snow and the road and such though. You would think that it was March 27th........not February!:face-icon-small-sho

Yep be careful out there. Anything that is facing North to North East will slide. We set off two slides up by Farmington yesterday. Slides are breaking 2-3 feet deep. Pay attention if you do get on the hills right now, always be thinking what may happen and think of what you will do. Best way to survive an avalanche is to not be in one. I hate these things. This is a crazy year, I dont remember avalanches being this bad for this many months in a row. What a bad year.
