Just read that TV's over 40 inch will be banned in California...old Arnie has lost his mind.Says it will save on electricity consumption.

He hasn't lost his mind, it was replaced. (Didn't that happen in one of his movies?) Maybe the 40" TVs were showing too many imperfections in his body when he was on TV.

also if I recall I heard on the radio TVs take 10 percent of the grid in Cali....that's alot of draw that could be reduced. Not saying it's right or wrong...

Funny thing is that I'm trying to get stationed back in California. There is some pretty good riding in the Sierras!

hahahaha....how are they going to enforce that!? Sure they can make stores stop selling them.....but the people that already have them! hhahahahaha what a tool! Ahhh Arnie the communist.

Maybe welfare recipients can soon get free TV's to upgrade their old junkie TV that uses too much energy. It would save the government money since they are already paying welfare recipient's energy bills...oh wait, I mean our money.

I don't see the problem with this. Plasma displays, especially large ones are very inefficient and use nearly twice the electricity of their LCD counterparts. For anyone who doesn't have a plasma, go to your local Best Buy and walk infront of where the plasmas are displayed. I guarantee you'll feel the heat coming off of them.

Look, this shouldn't be about political partisanship. Their electrical grid is overloaded to start with. No one wants a generating facility in their backyard, so here we go. This is a simple step towards part of the solution. No one said you couldn't buy a 40+ inch plasma elsewhere, or still operate your current one there. Plasma is a dying technology anyway.

Exactly, I don't understand how you don't like this. Companies will not change just because it is the "right" thing to do.

Do you really think airbags would be in EVERY single car produced if it had not been made a law? Do you think every car would have seatbelts, would every car have side impact beams? Starting in I think 2012 every car will be required to have skid control. These are measures that are taken for the public's interest. It is better for all of us.

They are not saying you cannot have a huge *** TV, they are simply saying that these new TV's will have to use less energy. The technology is there, and most of the good TV manufactures are already within these standards.

One word says it all, Control. Maybe you milehighass should turn off your comp. or get a more eff. one. you are using way to much electricity. How about Hybrid cars, Joke. Solar panels, joke. We are talking about Califorinia. The land of weird Os. Skid control, I wish underwear came with that option. Hell maybe we could invent that. People from Caly would buy them.

no...they are saying its a TV to keep the hippies happy....they are the ones using all the electricity with grower lights and hydoponics systems...hhahaha hmmm TVs or pot...welp TVs gotta go

Exactly.
The government stepping in to dictate once again.
You want to get rid of plasma tv's. fine. Convince the people to change.
If LCD is cheaper, then it will sell more. If the people demand LCD, then plasma will go away.

Same with everything else.
Someone in the government decides it's the best thing to do so they MAKE you do it. Seat belts, air bags, Plasma TV's, auto insurance, health insurance, the list goes on and on and on.
It's about control, plain and simple.

once again who gives a fly fawk thru a rolling donut .............I own a generator !!!!!!!!!

ahahahahhhahahahahhahahhah uncontrolaby

Again the government picks the single most inefficient way to do things. Were using too much electricity, lets outlaw plasma TV's............are you effin kidding me? The cost of trying to instate this legislation will be more than the electricity saved with this garbage.

If the electricity used in cali is really such a huge issue then make it more expensive, people will use less of it.

Close, but don't "Make" it more expensive. California imports a lot of their electricity. Just make them pay the ACTUAL costs associated with it. currently the states that give the electricity to california can't charge them more than the standard amount.
The costs are spread over the entire grid the power supplier supplies.

Essentially, California gets subsidied electricity because the addition costs are spread over a larger area. If a power plant used to produce at 80% of capacity and is forced to go to 95% of capacity, the additional costs associated with less down time for maintenance and increased wear and tear should be born entirely by california. That would jump their electricy costs by 2 or 3 times.

Not sure what bill this was but I guess there is a secret code in this letter...lol.
