Places to ride near Buena Vista, CO

Looking for places to ride near Buena Vista, CO. Heading down to ride 2 days at Burandts Backcountry Adventure but would like to ride a few hours the day before to make sure the clutching is right and to get some thin air pumping through our midwest overweight bodies.

Are there open areas for the public to ride down in this area or is it all off limits?

Looking for suggestions and/or advice.

Just keep driving past Burandt's place until the end of the plowed road. Depending on when you go, it might be up to the Denny Creek lot, or (better) up to Avalanche lot. The road is the trail over the pass, it's groomed usually. Once you get up near tree line, the right side of the road is wilderness. The FS has a map online of OHV use for that area. I'll see if I can find the link again.

Ride the road up to the Bowl and play around in there for a while. High altitude. Drink water and then some more water and then some more. A little aspirin also. Don't over do it or you will be shipped back to lower altitude. If there is little snow you will be able to park at Denny Creek, if alot it is at Avalanche lot. Couple miles apart. No big deal..... Bring Lutefisk and keep it in your pockets.....special sven and ole powers there don't ya know.....

Thanks for the responses guys.

If it doesn't snow soon here, that will be my shake down ride on the new sled. Should be getting the sled back together next weekend if Carls Cycle ships out the top end today/tomorrow.

Stay away from the beer, and if you really are overweight, you are gonna get worked, HARD!

I will be heading out there as well with Jonce, and I am liery on how heavy weights I should run.. I have a '09 D8 with a Silber turbo.. I guess one thing going for me, if I am weighted too heavy, I could just turn the boost up... :)

But, I am thinking about running roughly 12lbs of boost with 68g of weight. Any thoughts?

Back2cat yes your right it is a great idea to have a jack, we have 3 or 4, I cant remember anymore. He should drive over there being that there is no riding past Cottonwood Pass to speak of!!!! ;)

I have a M1100T 162 on the way, I have 2 jacks, maybe I should go double barrel and mount one on each side!
