Piston wash on Fan Cooled

Would piston wash look the same on a fan cooled, as it would on a water cooled engine? Say the jetting was good. Would I see thumbnail wash spots? I have heard conflicting statements. I am talking about a 485 phazer. I see no wash on my pistons. I guess that is why the Pto piston is messed up
