piston ring question

Helping my buddy put some new SPI pistons in his 03 800 rmk.I noticed that the piston had 2 different rings.one was slightly beveled and the other had perfectly square edges.looked at his old pistons and 1 piston had the beveled ring on top and the other had the beveled ring on the bottom, anybody know which one is supposed to go on top?my knowledge says beveled on top so the rings get a oil squish at tdc, but wtf do I know? Also does anyone the correct ring end gap for this piston,or a stock polaris piston for that matter. Thanks for any info.

The beveled one, which I think is shiny, goes on top.

With the SPIs there is also a top and a bottom to the ring. It won't compress into the groove right if you have them flipped over.

Ring gap should be a minimum of .012".
