Pirates tried Jacking another one of our boats

Sounds like we need to send some bait ships in. Regular looking freighters flyin old glory but armed with marines. a few times the pirates get the sheot kicked out of them, they will the leave the american ships alone.

They would learn quick for sure, It's human nature.... You only do what you can get away with.

I thought I heard this morning about someone suggesting having armed security aboard the ships now. How would that work with these laws?

Sound good but would you want armed Somoli or Saudi freighters pulling into U.S. Ports? Just think what the real bad U.S. hating terrorist learned from this

Are your serious? The skinnie's never attacked a U.S. flagged ship when Bush was in office, They knew better!!!!!!!!

For one there are not a lot of U.S. "flagged" commercial ships because it is far cheaper to flag commercial shipping ships to other countries. The U.S. charges more money to have their flag on it than other countries do, even most major U.S. shipping companies flag the ships under other countries.

On top of that, there was more than one shipped attacked that had Americans on it, and nothing was done (while Bush was in charge).

Here is the most effecient way to solve this Pirate issue.

You get several airstrips along the African coast. Get 30 or so unmanned predators with air to ground rockets on them.

Those predators would be up in the air 24-7 each overlapping each others area of operations.

Boat crew sees trouble on radar, they call for help.........Presumably a Predator is within an hour or so flying distance of a ship.

Predator plane flys to the area, monitors what is happening from 10,000 feet, and if aggression takes place on the part of the pirates, you launch a rocket and blow the boat out of the water.

Keep doing this for 6 months, the pirates feel enough pain, they stop. You cut back the force and maintain the ability to strike if the occasion arises.

I would love to see some bomb mounted camera footage as it streaks towards the boat, then the boat blowing up, and pirate parts becoming shark food..

End of Problem!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zg2A9M6QqY

You know, you'd sound like way less of a tool if you'd quit trying to play that card.

Sure, American ships were hijacked in previous years, but not daily like we've been seeing the last month or so.

.

He is quite correct about that. If you look at the cruise industry you won't find many (if any) that are flagged in the US. Most of the ships that are flagged US have to be for one reason or another.

They usual fly the Amwerican flag while in our ports but once they're in international waters it's a different story.

You can't really go after the mother ships the pirates are using. They are ships that have been highjacked and belong to other countries.
The only real and effective way to do it would be a full naval blockade of somali. The problem then becomes, what about the prisoners they already have?
They have threatened to kill them if we blockade the ports.
So your options aren't really that great.

The best bet in my ignorante opinion would be to go after the pirates themselves. Not just on the water. We know they are organized. They have leaders. Go after em. Bomb them, rain bullets from the sky. Kill enough of em and they will stop. But again, what about the hostigaes.

I am not trying to play that card. That was the card that was dealt to all of us. Sorry but it happened and W did little about it. Granted it is hard to do a lot when you have most of your Carriers in the Persian Gulf dealing with Iraq and Afghanistan.

I still stand firm that the United States need to lead the charge with particularly Britain, France and Russia to all of our powerful Navies to start active training missions. (All four countries are permanent members of the UN)
