Pipe Wrap

I've gone to a pipe guard instead of wrapping simply because it's easier to do. Otherwise the wrap is really nice. When it's finished it sets up like a cast. Use the entire can of DEI spray in 4 coats, let it dry overnight, and then run the bike for about 20 minutes the next day. Make sure to open your garage door cause it's gonna smoke like MOFO, but when it's done you'll hear it setup like a rock. Make sure to use the volcano wrap from DEI too... it's good stuff. I got an entire season out of my KX wrap.

as mentioned, it doesn't last as long as a pipe guard. So, i'd just buy the pipe guard. Also, a lot people think pipe wrap causes premature metal fatigue as well.

The same goes for not having a pipe wrap. The constant super cold snow on a very hot pipe does the same thing to metal. Plenty of people have been through a lot of head pipes... it's why I only use the stocker ones now and fit a slip on. Having the wrap has got to be a lot better than not having it.

A wrap is always going to retain moisture more than a guard or nothing. I can see the point of having it, but I can't see it not decreasing life more than other means.

I've always preferred ceramic coating cuz of the lack of moisture retention, so on something that's constantly in snow, I'd ceramic coat and maybe put a pipe guard on.

I can promise you that if you use the method I outlined above moisture will not penetrate the wrap.

Hey Rush how long of a roll would you say that took to do that KXF header? I'm thinking I will need twice that much to do my CRF.

if its stainless ie a 4-stroke header, wrap away if you like.

its mild steel ect, that will give you problems when wrapped. say a painted 2-stroke pipe. Nickel plated 2-stroke pipe will be fine.

have plans to put a 2-stroke pipe in an ice bucket and run it on a dyno to see how it changes power curve with respect to normal temps. should be real interesting to see how the power curve changes.
