Pinnacle Security

Anyone hear anything about this company? They are based out of Orem UT. They came knocking on the door last night when just the wife and kids were home, I was still out of town for work and didn’t get home till 8. They came telling her the statistics of robberies fires ect, ect and told her all the great things a security system can do for you. Then they said that they will give us all the equipment and installation for free as long as we keep a sign up in the yard. The reasoning is so that if neighbors want a system they see their sign and look at that company first, so basically for our advertising they will install the system and give is the components for free…..we just have to pay the $46/mo fee for the service.

They said they were only doing this for 4 houses in our new development so if anyone asked about it we just tell them that we paid retail. She agreed, signed the contract that is clear as mud with no answers to any of the questions I asked her off the bat, gave them her debit card # to start the automatic withdraws, and now I have a security system. They started installing it the minute she signed on the dotted line. It was all installed by the time I got home so apon opening the door I have some voice that says “front door open” and was like WTF? The dipsh*t that installed it made 4 big a*s holes in my wall before he got the power routed down to the plug in (didn’t account for a fireblock using that little thing I like to call a STUD FINDER) and then did a horse sh*t job patching up the 4 big holes and gave her about a 4 minute overview of the system and was out the door.

I played around with it and can’t get the motion sensor to work, and I can stand the ear piercing alarm that goes off when you open the door until you disarm it, and I have a feeling the $46/mo will be $60/mo after taxes and all that other BS. We talked about getting a system because my wife works at the hospital nights and days so there are a lot of times she is at home during the day sleeping when the house appears empty. She is about 105lbs wet so it’s not going to take Chuck Norris to overpower her. Has anyone heard of these guys and know if they are a good company or not? Is $46/mo kinda high for the service? I have 3 days to cancel it no questions asked, but I will then have 5 big a*s holes in my wall and holes above my doors and windows……

Don't you love when women make these decisions without consulting? My ex ended up with an $1800 kirby vacuum while I was away at work one day. I was less than impressed when I got home from work.

I had a similar deal with a security company a few years back! I had the BBB on there *** before it was over.

I think(don't hold me to the name) but Bubba700 on here, who is a standup guy has installed in the summers for them for the past couple years, should be able to help you out. I will track hhim down for you if I can, but I'm sure he will let you know, might try a search on here, there was a thread I would guess about 2 months ago that he chimed in on for home secuirty systems, he knows his stuff....

PM sent. To those guys that see this, Pinnacle is a standup co. Unfortunatly on occasion there are crappy techs or sales guys just like at any job. I chimmed in earlier in the summer and answered some questions about this topic and if anyone has further questions shoot me a pm. Always happy to answer any questions for people.

Bubba,
Got your PM, thanks! I understand the whole hole in the wall stuff because the location of the touch pad looks to be a simple installation but because of the way the builder did a goofy job on the wall there were some complications. I am disappointed on the job he did patching it and will call the 877 number to see if I can get that straightened out. I was more concerned if the company is reputable or not and I am paying for a robust system. Is it normal for security systems to start the loud alarm the second u walk in the door to disarm it? It makes my 18mo old scream and cry when it goes off because it scares the crap out of him.....I might be buying a remote if that’s the case.

I think it was Bubba's advice I took and I went with the system. We are very happy with it. The sales guy was really good and the install guys were a couple of young fellows from Utah (i think) and they were a couple of great kids. The install was quick and clean. They walked us through the system etc. (I have since forgot everything they told me but that is my problem) There is a silent mode you put on and all you hear is the initial beep and then none of the others as they count down.

I was very happy so far. The true test will be if I ever need it. I guess the biggest thing about it is now my wife feels secure when I am gone, that she has some sort of security for her and the little one.

All it should do when you open the door is a beeping similiar to the count down when it arms to let you know that it was armed and that you need to disarm it. Anything louder than that and it is programmed wrong for that zone. Most likely it just doesn't have a delay on that door and so it is going of the min that you open the door. Look at the zone list they gave you if the door you are coming in is a 13 it is wrong needs to be a 10 so it will have a delay. On your zone list on the pink copy it will have a zone # then the a # that shows the zone type then over on the right will be the description Ie front door, back dooor, motion, etc. One thing you can do when arming it so you don't have to hear it go through the whole count down is press the silent button ( located upper right side of heypad) after it has started arming. Doing that will mute the exit countdown.

Another thing about the motions, the way that motions on these wireless systems work is they take a picture in the infered spec. that is in a grid pattern. Think of a grid sheet from geometry class. They take a block by block picture of the room. It takes a couple of min. with no movement inthe room for them to do this. So if you are in the room the motion is in, arming it and then trying to set it off right then, 9 times out of 10 its not going to go off. It needs a chance to set before you can set the thing off. This is different from most of the hard wired motion detectors that people are familiar with. Again let me know if there are problems I sort of know some people in the co ;)
