Piggy Back or Mono-Shocks

Long time Summit driver, jumping to Poo. Never had a Polaris. I am snow checking a new RMK in a day or so. I don't ride anything for trails other than a little bit to get in an out. Do I need the piggy back shocks? Do they make that big a difference on the side of a hill in the woods?

The new piggybacks are actually a step up from snowcheck Axys RMKs of the past as they are the needle valve variety found on the Assualt chassis.

If you have the coin, I say go for it. They actually perform very well - more in line with aftermarket top rung offerings than the Pro RMK piggybacks of yesteryear.

Are you sure? Are they the 5/8" shafts?

For next year they are in fact needle valve. Not sure on shaft diameter however.

Where did you see that they are needle shocks? As far as I know only the Assault gets the needle shocks with 5/8" shafts.

The Pros get 1/2" shaft non-needle, remote resi clickers.
Or the new monotube shocks w/ high flow Walker Evans Pistons, and an improved RTS

Have you ridden an Axys to compare to your G4? Just looking for some comparisons.

Piggies necessary???

If you don't travel long distances on whooped out trails, I say put the money elsewhere and loose the weight....

This is the first year I have NOT had piggies on my RMK and I don't miss them. I ride primarily trees so not pounding the sled over moguls or dropping off cliffs.

If your fussy, you probably would be best to go aftermarket anyway...

In general, the axys rides like crap in the bumps. My 16 had the standard Pro shock, my 17 had the piggy back clicker shocks.... Both suck.

I would get the standard pro shock and put on a set of Raptor triple rate springs. That is the best bang for your buck if you dont want to spend big buck on aftermarket shocks.

PS.... I have a set of raptor springs for sale, took them off my 17 before I sold it. Like new, 200.0 shipped. Eric

They are a super cheap upgrade in the sled shock world....Id do it for sure on a snowcheck. More fluid volume, more bottoming resistance when firmed up....they aren't an amazing shock, but they're an upgrade imo

At least if you want to go aftermarket shocks one day, the clickers are sellable to offset cost. Whereas the monotubes are basically give-aways.
