looking to buy another sled mostly for my wife to ride but will probably turbo it eventualy. Want to know if the phase is a good sled and what are all the updates that people talk about

Bought two last season for the ladies. They didn't like them off the start due to them not being used to the high center of gravity, also had crusty snow conditions and skiis bit hard. When back in good snow condition they liked them again. They are not a power house, but I have alot of fun boon docking with them. Heard several people say that they run better super charged than turboed. I am going to super charge one this winter and see.
Only issues was a recall on the hand warmers crapping out on the 08's
This winter we have 3 with ladies riding them. When they stay home, sure us guys will be ditch banging with them to keep the miles off ours.
Works best if rider has some skill for off camber riding, or more traditional low wide sled may work better. They perform the same as a pro X 440.
Just my thoughts:beer;

I have a friend who has one...its a fun sled but it lacks power...my sons 08 600 ho 155 makes it look bad in powder..and I would take the rmk..a carls bigbore kit down the road would enhance the rmk even more,....on hardpack and 6-12 inches of powder on a good base the phaser is alot of fun..

I bought 2 this spring for my kids, good sleds, yes underpowered, but perfect for playing in the fields and great on the trails for them. The reliability also was a selling point. (They kept burning down the old 580 EXT's, and got sick of dumping $ into a worthless sled). They don't doo well in deep, but what can you expect out of a little 500. I personally like to play around carving and jumping them from time to time, then it's back to my cat for the off trail hills and harder stuff. It all depends on who, (and much experience) the rider has, and what conditions it will be used in. Just my opinion.

A buddy has the mountian sled version. As others said, little shy on power, but for a 500cc its pretty good. He really likes it, now that he is used to how it handles.
I'm amazed at the places he can go with it in the mountians! He is a pretty good rider though, has lots of exprience with smaller sleds, and how to get to most out of them.

Thanks for the input. I plan on putting the Simmons Gen II on it to make it a little more stable for the wife. Keep the input coming I want to hear more input

I bought an 08 this spring for my wife, the first few rides she wasn't too comfortable on it and actually had to ride my Nytro MTX as the warmers didn't work. She loves it now, I offered to keep the Nytro MTX for her (I'm upgrading) and sell the Phazer MTX - but she wants to ride the Phazer MTX.

Bought an 08 for the daughter. She likes it, but has been riding for 15 years. I feel its a fun sled, underpowered, and the maverick track is junk. Going to put a 153 track from a m-8 under it and a big wheel kit and slide the skid back some. The approach angle seems too steep. Yes I know I ll have to trim the track. Dino

I bought an 08 for my wife, she used to ride an 01 summit 700. The 700 had more power for sure, but the phazer chassis makes up for the lack of power. At first the phazer seems tippy, but after awhile you learn too use that to your advantage, for sidehilling and boondocking. Its funny because all the other girls we ride with, all ride bigger sleds, but my wife goes more places than them. My wife does not miss the 700 at all she really loves the phazer, I don't miss messing with the 700 hundred every time we went riding, now all she has to do is turn the key and go.

even if you put boost on it then ur at the hosre of a stock two stroke and have the rebuiled the damn thing every half season. get someting bigger like the nytro

I too bought one for my wife last spring. I absolutly love it for boondocking and jumping. It is a little under sprung for a heavy or aggressive rider, but way hi on the fun factor. I would like my buddies to buy a couple and then we could go ditch bang or boondock together and not worry about who's running the most boost every day.

come on meow! The turbo phazer with good gas at 15psi will waste an 800 2 stroke and just be gas and go.... its when you try to run 15 on pump that they melt down on every long pull....
15psi, two headgaskets, rearmount with 100ll av gas will put a huge grin on your face! and barely burn a whole tank of fuel in a day, 100+km day in deep pow! 153 2.25 14.5 spinnin 52mph, its a dirtbike on skis, just dont try to climb the big stuff cause it trenches bad!

I have heard that the phaser doesnt hold up to boost and that if you do go for boost to do a super charger and not a turbo. I am a turbo man but not sure on a phaser

The Phazer is a good trail sled. underpowered for those who are looking for a little extra throttle. A heck of a lot of fun carving on fresh powder, but don't go chasing after the long tracks in the hills unless you have a winch installed.
A little top heavy at first but as was said earlier you can use that to your advantage. definately not the most exciting sled Yamaha builds...

Okay, now I feel like a Fricken Pansy.
I just bought.......myself a 07 MTX. All this talk about "Wives" and Kids" ridin em has got me wondering.
I'm a pretty mellow rider who spends most of the time in the meadows and bowls. Not too much for steep and deep, once in awhile but not all day. Rode a 99 Mountain Max 700 last year and wanted something a little more maneuvereable. Still have a 2000 MM 700 that the wife rides and she loves it. Quite a few guys around here have the Phazer and they really like the quick resposive handling. I've heard the forward seating does take some getting used to. Too bad I have to wait 3 months yet to find out. Oh well, even if I have to ride with the wives and kids......I'm still ridin!

Rode with 2 last winter one supercharged and the other turbo. Lets just say both are for sale this year. In any amount of decent snow they where terrible. They dove and trenched like no other. Spooling them up and poaching a track would give you a decent shot at pulling a fresh track but get ready to carve your way back or plan to start digging. They do look cool but personally cant see them very functional unless one loves trail riding.
Any used 800 2 stroke stock will be cheaper and run circles around it imo.
I see in thunderstruck 7 they show a clip of the boosted phazer. Either they where getting a mile long run or that snow had some set up underneath. At the end of the clip when it gets stuck turning............thats the real McCoy.

This ones plenty cool:D........love the comments on the Youtube site.lol:p
My kids ride one stock and one boosted. They both love them a ton.
Can't see them riding anything else for the next few years.

That is my video footage, I watched that sled kick butt on all challengers in naturally aspirated 2 strokes over and over. I am probably going to buy one this week for my son.

not trying to be negative... but from the guys i seen bragging about how great they were going to go with a turbo never did any thing in deep snow and the turbo lag was ridiculous on the rear mount kit, a lot of guys had them for sale in december but i suppose they serve there purpose for a kids sled...
