PG vs Race Gas Turbo kit

Looking at these two options, I ride trees most of the time will the RG turbo lag be a problem vs the pump gas setup?

Straight up - a turbo sled should not be run on pump gas.

On an M8 you can run around 6 pounds safely on true 91, but with ethanol and all of the variables who knows what you are getting. Of course, elevation makes a difference in boost numbers as does head design.

If you are getting a turbo plan on buying some good gas and enjoying it!!!!

The turbo setup will dictate lag more than the race gas/pump gas issue.

I say rg, the option is worth every penny, but I ran pg quite often or 1 gal of av with pg and got closer to 8-9lbs with the oil I run and a stabil type additive called Enzyme.
The kit, clutching and fuel tuning is more important when it comes to response. If you put to much octane in it will effect it but thats easy to know where you should be.

I asked shane the same question when ordering my twisted kit years agoe. He said simply, You know how many guys buy a pump gas kit, go for a couple rides and come back wanting more. You can always run a race gas kit on pump gas. (if being cheap is your only reasoning for this then i'm not sure a turbo is for you) but you can only go so far with a pump gas kit. RS is right there should be no such thing as a pump gas kit but after riding your gonna want to be blending and be somewhere in the middle at the very least. i gaurontee

or ya what he said

buy a RG kit 2nd set up injectors- then you can increase or decrease boost

to whatever fuel you want to run. i'm currently running 10psi on straight avgas. it's only about $20 more per tankful than Super. x2 on limited to about 5-6 lbs on PG. and you will want more stock injectors on a m8 are limited to 200-210 HP.

I guess I am the exception here....

I have a couple race gas turbos and I spend the most of my time on my PG M8.....boondockin... technical riding....

I love big HP on the RG sleds but man the PG turbos make awesome power on 91 octane for what they are... I am yet to see any other mod sled that runs on straight 91 octane which compares in the steep and deep... Flat ground there isnt much of a difference..But on the hill big diff.. This is not saying it cant be done and they dont exist but I havent seen any....maybe a big tripple on PG???

So if you spend the most of your time boondockin and tech riding I think you will love the PG sleds...

One thing I totally agree with is the fact that it is a good idea to do the 4 injector set up so you have the option to turn her up...

Also if you buy a RG turbo kit and you are going to run it on PG I would make sure you are getting the correct size turbo... Many of the kits on the market use a bigger turbo on the RG set up which is not optimal on a low boost...

good luck

Whimp,
maybe I just need a few extra lbs of boost to make up for my 200+lb azz. The 6lbs was fun but 8 was way better. Get around 10lbs and its more than I need for tight technical stuff.

Im 200 plus as well....

Hammertime...

If all you are worried about is throttle response then its a no brainer!!!! go with the race gas kit.....Like Racin said its more of the turbo kit and clutching that is going to effect your throttle response/ turbo Lag... Look for a kit that has all the right things for a quick spool.....

guess what... 15 lbs is way more fun than 10 lbs!
and the M1200T on 15 lbs is even more wicked fun!!!!!!

It all about what you are trying to accomplish.....

I ride the m8 pumper alot because its cheap to run.... Super reliable and I like the feeling of a challenge........

Remember when you couldnt make it over every hill and it was a challenge to everyone....

My riding group (well my old one before I moved 9 hours away) had 11 pumpgas turbos in it and we had a feaking riot going against eachother and pushing eachother to the limit...

But if the guy next to me is running 15 lbs Ill be damed if I not running 15lbs too!!!!Lol

These freakin Sleds are a very bad addiction to have.... Man why couldn't I have found a cheaper thing to keep me motivated to get up every morning!

Thanks everyone I am getting the RG kit with the extra injectors and inter cooler. Going to start off at 6lbs and run a 30% mix of av gas against our mid grade 87 octane here in Colorado. May go 50 50 when i decide to turn it up. That will prolly happen on the 2nd ride knowing how much adrenaline addiction I have.

Bring on the pow!

Thanks everyone!

The premium here sucks it has more alcohol in it than the 91. I'll go with the 91 octane then. I get much better mileage on the 87 here in colorado. They don't sell anything but 10% blended fuel in colorado now.

I doubt if you need any av for 6lbs, depends on the kit adn elevation, what kit are you going for.

These newer Boondocker Kits work well, and privided tuning numbers are really close. You will like the kit. I have run across" a number of M series late model boondocker kits on the hill, with satisfied owners, including myself. Wyo, have you been around any of the newer M series boondocker kits?

Wait till you see their new controller!! Connects right to the ECU connector and has the boost controller built in. I am hoping the new 3D controller functions as well as the older ADA controller I have been using on my 09!

Thats what I'm around the most, its still a learning curve and even myself I would want a good dealer so when I have questions they get answered. Yes it is far better than before, I think the '11 M has more of a rip factor though. Maybe just havent figured the clutching like it yet.

ModM1000162, why the bad rep. I said good luck, and if your new to turbos you better read up or have a good dealer, especially on a BD kit, it has more going on then most and you better know what your doing.
