Performance Package

Rode my M8 with SLP performance package in Cook City Monday and Tuesday. My sled ran awesome!!! The pipe is a good gain but the porting really wakes up the motor.

I used their fuel map for the PC V and the sled was pull and go both days, I didn't touch a thing.

I did my own clutching setup and rpms were right on and the motor pulled hard. Running a little heavier clutch setup and the rpm's were still holding 8050 to 8150.

Got to say I am very pleased with the way the setup turned out. Would reccomend this setup to anyone.

Mind sharing what clutching your running?

Thanks Scarter I've been waiting to hear from you. I'm glad you like you like your setup. I'm pretty sure that's what I'm goin to do.

Currently I have dalton 67.5 gram weights with 4.5 grams in the heel. SLP green with pink spring (160-340). I ran both the straight 36 degree helix and 44-36 degree helix with the stock secondary spring (orange I think).

Both helix setups seem to work well. I think the multi angle helix will really shine in the powder. There was no powder to speak of monday and tuesday.

I'm in the same boat as you. I also have an '09 HCR with the SLP pipe, can, and intake kit. MTX weights (71g) and 40/36 helix as SLP recommended.

Still can't hold the rpm's at high elevations (above 8500ft) while climbing in deep snow. The MTX weights and helix helped but still not quite there yet.

I can't honestly say that the pipe added all that much. I rode my friend's brand new '10 M8 Snowpro and it was noticeably better. It ran cleaner, crisper, and had more power.

So, should I spend more money on my '09 which has less than 300 miles or pick up a killer deal on a left over '10?????

I've also kicked around getting the SLP Performance package, I am already part way their with the slp single pipe setup air intake all I need is porting and a power commander. But until I can figure out how to get this thing to hold R's with this setup I'm a little hesitent to get the porting etc. I've tried many different clutch setups all with little difference in overall top R's, and at times with different setups it wouldn't pull hard either. I believe I've got to figure this out first before going to the performacne package. Once I do then I'll make the leap but to think getting the added r's by porting will make things right I believe is the wrong way to go. After reading many clutching posts on this subject I'm convinced the problem is in the secondary, that's where I'm headed this summer, oh and I will get a PC too, I've got this bog at about 4500rpm, it is not bad but you notice it. I think that can be corrected with a little fuel adjustment. SLP knows about this slight bog but did not feel it was bad enough to warrent the PC with just the single pipe setup and air kit.

Oh and about deciding to put money into the 09 or buy the 10, personally I'd keep the 09 and spend a little more time figuring out why you don't feel more out of it. Besides 300mi for a season's worth of riding doesn't seem like enough to spend the 2g's difference between the two sleds

Although I love the '10 M8 it hardly seems worth upgrading to the new iron if you only put 300 miles on your 09. Heck that motor is not even fully broken in yet. For the price you would get for your 2009, you mine as well try to get a summer deal on porting to match your pipe and keep the sled. I hope we see some really cool stuff from cat in their 50th anniversary year!

If any of you are still looking for an 09 performance package I have my ported cylinders, PCV, reeds, and pipe for sale. Let me know.
