Performance Package

I have a 2009 M8 HCR with a Starting Line single pipe. The sled runs good but not as good as the 2010's. I'm considering the Starting Line Performance package. How is everyone getting along with this set up? Any issues? How do they run compared to the 2010 sleds? The pipe really woke mine up but I want more. The sled has been trouble free for 1400 miles and I don't want a headache. What can I expect? Thanks guys.

Mine runs great, it will keep up with the 10s. Mine went down once this year because the guy I got it from forgot to mention the porting and without a fuel controller it was too lean. I have 3 rides out now since adding the powercommander V and it runs fantastic. I'm very happy with it.

I have been quizzing SLP about this setup for two seasons now. They still insist that the 09 with the perf pack is one of the most fun sleds they have built in a long time. They also say that the 09 will put a whoopin on their 10 with a pipe on it.

Mine has been good. I really haven't got much of a chance to compare it to other sleds but, it works very well.

I run a 09 M8 with a stock motor and pipe, and with a few little mods and tweeking I can pull my friends stock 10 M8 out of the hole and have him by a sled length in most any condition so the 09's will run with the 10's even stock if setup right. All my sled has is a Jaws can, D&D firebreather and about 35lbs removed and my own clutch setup.

The 09 m8 ported with slp pipe is near flawless and bullet proof and will beat the 2010 m8. SLP, Dakota performance, and Cutler are the three port jobs I've seen and the cutler so far takes it barely though, but Slp with the pre mapped PCIII and PCV is a easy setup.

my 09 M8 runs great with the performance. very strong through the whole rpm range. no regrets at all

Yeah no race fuel. My dad rides an 07 1000 with SLP pipe and powerclaw but no porting of anything and he still puts a pretty good beating on me. Those 1000s make some serious power but I work less and have more fun. :)

My ported 09 M8 runs much stronger than my buddies stock 07 M1000 but all he has done to it is a can and some venting. I am sure with a pipe, fuel box, and some clutching that could all change.

I just sent my cylinders off to SLP friday to get them ported for my 2009 M8. Their pipe made a big diffrence so I am anxious to see what the porting does, from everything I hear it is a sweet package. I will post more later this week when I get it running.

Good call Scarter!

What fuel controller are you getting. I'd have to assume the PCV (Power Commander 5)

When you get the kit I'd change the secondary spring as well. Read the post on "alternative secondary spring". I made a huge difference on my sled.

Best of luck

Of course I will be using the PC V....I hear it works really good:face-icon-small-win

I will have the LCD and autotune hooked up also. I am already runing their pipe and so far I have been really pleased.

Was the stock spring not stiff enough? I will have to search for that post you mentioned.

It's kind of like when you read SLPs clutching instructions for the Performance edition kit. They say the stock 36 degree heilx is good but, the 42/36 (MULTI-ANGLE ONLY) is better.

It would be similar to say the stock orange spring is good but, the Fett Brother's Green/white is better. I say that because the Fett Brother's spring is the only one of three I have had a chance to test so far. The Skidoo purple/purple or the Starightline silver may be even better?

Also, did you send SLP your primary clutch to have them balance it, shim it and install your MTX weights? Once the weights are installed, make sure they swing freely. If they are pinched too tight with the rubber O rings, they won't move freely and your clutches will enagage with a BANG and you'll tend to dig big holes.

Then there's the tale of what primary spring works best..............................

Thanks for the replies. I hope you like your new setup, scarter. I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Like you I already have the slp pipe and airbox. What primary spring are you guys running? I can't get mine to tach over 7900 rpm's at 8000 ft. elevation. It'll tach 8100 - 8200 at 6000' but not at 8000'.

I like the SLP Black/Pink with a 120/340 rating. It engages easily and will help you pull more RPM.

The Speedwerx H5 Red/white is a 125/340

I also have a blue primary spring that's a 130/360 but, I can't remember if it's a Goodwin spring? I think it is.

The higher the top number the more RPMs you will pull.

I am a Utah Jazz fan Frostbite. I think I'm running the white/yellow right now. I have a Speedwerx 125-340 spring. I'll try it next.

Good call!

That's the spring I have installed in my sled now too but, I haven't got a chance to try it just yet.

Rode my M8 with SLP performance package in Cook City Monday and Tuesday. My sled ran awesome!!! The pipe is a good gain but the porting really wakes up the motor.

I used their fuel map for the PC V and the sled was pull and go both days, I didn't touch a thing.

I did my own clutching setup and rpms were right on and the motor pulled hard. Running a little heavier clutch setup and the rpm's were still holding 8050 to 8150.

Got to say I am very pleased with the way the setup turned out. Would reccomend this setup to anyone.
