well... next year I think I'll be happy that I didn't use "arcticcatislife" or "backcountrymseries" for my user name... just sayin...:face-icon-small-win

Cat has flopped SO miserably, SO pitifully, and done such a HORRID job of listening to customers/ taking care of issues... that I simply can't see buying another one. I LOVE my 2011 M, and wouldn't trade it for a pro... but next year that's gonna likely change. I just can't do "almost good enough".

All my buddies who are or already have sold their 2012 cats... I'll see ya next year!!!:face-icon-small-win

It's really been a debacle since the big Internet release disaster last spring.

I'm a big cat guy, but they really took a step back with this one.

With no tensioner I wonder how many gearing combinations will be doable?
Those belts must not run very tight?? Or the belt is a bugger to change without a tensioner to back off??

Who will be the first to market a tensioner to allow more gearing combos with the same belt? :face-icon-small-sho

And the reason I asked about a cover (and got flamed?) was because it seems everything that moves has a cover nowdays for liability reasons....including the clutches, at least my sled does. I didn't say it needs one, I was curious if there MIGHT BE ONE? I know there are people reading this that put their empty beer cans in that area....or a broken exhaust spring....or the Polaris goggle warming bag that mounts right above it that geats wrapped up in there....you KNOW it will happen.

CMX wants $2400 for belt drive, is there away to buy polaris parts you think or its gonna be out of questions do to alignment issues?

Maybe a lightweight turbo 4 stroke to steal the hype away from the 1100 turbo?

the belt drive does look pretty cool but i am pretty concerned about the possibility of not having a cover. the issue is not really with twigs, branches, or debris but from ice and snow. i think that could cause a significant issue and since it looks like they are still using the same foot well plates, snow and ice will be getting in on the belt dive. there is still potential to but add a cover so we will just have to wait and see.

couple things i noticed:

without any type of tensioner (sp?) what kind of gear change options is there going to be? will have to buy a longer/shorter belt to go along with it. you can't see what the top gear is but the bottom gear is a 44. so to get to polaris's current stock ratio (2.1) you need a top gear of 21. to get closer to the ratio most seem to like (2.26 or a 19/43 combo) you need a 20 top (2.2) or 19 top (2.3). i'd vote for the 19...

also, you can see a little more of the track in this pic. if it is the one they are going to use, it looks to be the same 5.1. but they could still make changes but keep the same pattern. imo, the same patter with a slightly higher durometer would be really nice. my complete WAG was they would introduce a new/updated track. looks like i'm probably wrong.

keep in mind there is only one more "part" reveal left, which will be tomorrow. friday they will show us a complete pic, hopefully pics, of the entire sled. i would bet my new house money that it will NOT be a factory turbo. not gonna happen. the cat guys were dreaming of the same thing last year (on the 2-stroke), the doo guys are speculating the same thing now, and this has been the standard speculation/wishful thinking for everyone the last few years. with that said, there will be a HP increase but 10 more will be the top end, probably 5 or 6, and that is if they even make any claims. they didn't for 12 and pretty much everyone agrees the 12's run stronger than the 11's.

There is not anymore hype with the 1100. Remember all the "can you boondock a four stroke turbo in the trees?" threads from last spring? Not too many more of those now that they have hit the snow and proved to SUCK.

I sure hope y'all got room in the wagon because I'm coming on board.:face-icon-small-hap

I have always ridden what I considered to be the best (modified) offering, since I have never been satisfied with stock. Holy cow...this sled is really shaping up to be a game changer. Nice job Polaris...now where do I sign!

As for gear ratios, belt and tensioner.

The way these work is total tooth count on both sprockets; so if you drop a tooth on top you add a tooth to the bottom to maintain tension and keep the belt tight. The belt has near zero stretch so no tensioner is needed. The way they did the guides, you'd remove the top sprocket put your new belt on and re-install the top sprocket. The only reason you'd need a tensioner is to split available ratios. Gates makes a fair amount of belts so a longer center to center is conceivable, we'll just have to wait for the real specs.

Harley's have had the belt drive for some time now. Rain snow and other debris doesn't effect their belts. As an added note; The man that first came up with the belt drive was Gordy Rudolph. I believe he worked for Polaris years back and had something to do with the 1st. trailer arm suspension. I had him do work on my sled back in the early 90's

In the belt drive pic...it's obvious they are running the same hifax as before. No upgrades there (as mentioned somehwere this past couple weeks)

Look carefully in the pic...the SAME full length cooler and not back to running board coolers.

Does it look like room to mount brake disk down below and caliper out in front of that. Caliper would sit about about 3 or 4:00 if it were on the bottom, as opposed to about 1:00 up on the top.

I would like to see a change in post/riser/bars and controls for tomorrows reveal....narrower bars are so much nicer IMO.
Maybe a Team Tied?

You would think they would save the biggest news for last though? I don't think narrow bars tops a belt drive.

I guess Team Tied could be a possibility.

I still think a small HP increase may be the final upgrade. :face-icon-small-hap

I hear there is another belt drive coming to market in the 1100 dollar range next year
