where's the parking on baker the wife and I are snow camping this weekend just wondering how far up I need to get

Hey. I've never rode on Baker and am planning on heading there first week of may to ride up and camp, then climb to the summit the next day. What is the trailhead like in early may? Will there be snow at the snow park or is it likely we won't be able to take sleds up? Any other info would be great. Thanks.

Jeff

You can't ride a sled on the mountain if the FS says there is not enough snow in the meadows. Think the rule is 2 Ft in the meadows. After that I think you are hiking from the parking lot. I have not been there in a few week nor have I seen any snow reports for the snow bridge and depth in the meadows. Maybe someone who has ridden there recently will chime in. If I ride that side of the mountain over the next couple days I plan on spending up there, I will post some info. Also, once the snow bridge melts there is very limited access to the mountain. Taking a sled late season towards the summit is EXTREMELY RISKY especially if you have never ridden the area. We loose people in the crevasse every year during the early and late season. Not recommended to ride up there without someone with decent knowledge of the area during early and late season. Lots of cracks, crevasses, creeks and glacier related hazards. Hopefully the snow will last and all will be good in early may. Have a safe trip!!!

Rode there yesterday. Parked at the 2nd switchback. Some small dirt patches from 2nd to 3rd, then snow all the way up. Still too much snow to drive to the 3rd switchback yet. Snow was all iced up till after 12, even up high (big house). Like riding pavement. Improved in the afternoon.
