Haven't seen much about the Paragon on here for a while and have had some people PM me with questions etc.
Some of the cool things Duane has been up to is a new updated tower that incorporates the reverse @ the base of the tower instead of @ the helix (typical reverse cut cam). This enables a person to run a straight enclosed helix with no cut-out for reverse:face-icon-small-win = good stuff!!!!!!
There are some other updates involved with the change but I'll let Duane explain it all to those who call him----
Had a guy asking me about some clutching and prompted me to go back down memory lane a ways with the Paragon. ( I've been running, setting up on mountain / race sleds since 2004).
Customer wanted race sled set up for hill climb. My oldest son was of the same weight / size so he became the "test rider of course"!
Set up a course with the same elevation change bottom to top similar conditions.
Spent a lot of time dialing it in / breaking in a new mod motor I had built for him. Finally, my son says "we're there"!!! I was still getting a little more heat out of the primary but rpm was spot on etc. and we had tried all the helix / parts combinations I thought would work.
Just on a whim, I had him come back to the pickup and I said we're going to try one last thing---
So, I started pulling weight out of the primary a couple tenths at a time as he would make a run. Each run I would shoot the clutches with a Ray Tech and ask him, faster or slower? He kept saying faster, Dad, so I kept pulling out more weight. Primary started creeping down cooler & cooler and I kept asking him, rpm going up? He kept saying NO!!! I'm scratching my head but what the ^(*^ it's getting better so---Kept pulling weight out until he said it didn't pull any harder. I asked what the rpm was doing? Just started to creep up he says!? So, I pull out a couple more tenths and he says rpm definetely going up and slowing down. Heat started coming back up in the primary. Back to previous set up @ best pull no rpm change.
This was with a 64X58 helix in a 136" Hill cross race sled good snow lot's of track speed.
Paragon. Interesting clutch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too have had a Paragon for years and have been through all the updates and each time it just gets better. One of the things that you have to convince yourself of is to run the lighter primary set-up and then things start to come around. Duane has also changed the secondary spring this year and that has lowered clutch temps even more with better track speeds.

Yea, I tried the new cap & compression spring / shims. Worked good, but I personally
like the old set up better running a Snow pro Green spring in our conditions. Infinite adjustment quick for conditions. I just chucked the cap up in the lathe and put enough taper on it ( hub inside spring)so there wouldn't be any coil bind @ full shift. Wa La !!!!!!!! Awesome----------

Good to hear that you've got the Paragon running good with your changes. The new springs that Duane is offering this year are a little stiffer. There are 3 to choose from. Duane said that the sheaves look even better than before with the spring change and track speed on average has been 3-4 more MPH in deep Powder.
Also: No not Lectrons , but some billet 46's that I machined up..

M8 with Paragon

Installed a Paragon on 2011 M8 162" yesterday.
58X55 helix w/ Green Snopro spring.
Updated tower for engine reverse (no reverse cut-out in helix)
Sled also has 52X68 gears.
Thunder arms in the drive clutch.
Hopefully weather gets better so I can get it dialed in. Can't wait to see the gains over the stock driven/ gears. This sled was a really good runner to begin with for being all stock.

Finally did some clutching yesterday om the M8.
Had way too much weight in the drive so started pulling weight out of the Thunder arms. Stayed with the stock spring for now to see what happens.
Ended up at 65 grms. to get 8,300 @ sea level with 1/2" twist in the Paragon.
I'll see if that will get us 8,200 + - on the mountain with maybe a touch more twist depending on how deep it is. The last change I made was -
67 grms = 8,200. 65 grms raised me the other 100 rpm & sled just started to slow down testing on the level @ sea level 3' of fresh heavy snow.
Took the twist out of the Paragon and it went back down to 8,200 and pulled like it did with the 67 grms. This will be trail / going home setting!!!
We'll have to see if the Paragon will be sensitive enough to hold the rpm up high in the deep with the 65grms running nice & cool, or I'll have to pull some more weight out.

Paragon on ZX chassis Skidoo

My dad had been running the paragon since Duane first started making them. My brother and I finally purchased one this year after getting tired of getting our butt's handed to us by our dad. My dad and I run 2001 800s and my brother has a 02 800. Keep in mind that my dad is geared at 17/47 and my brother and I are at 18/45/ Now our sleds keep up with his, and my buddies 08 XP that has a clutch kit on it. Not only can I keep up with the XP with stock gearing, I can pass it in both the fluff and on the trail, and my clutch temps were nice and cool after a few long hard pulls up the hill this last trip.

Going to be putting RKT's 827 in my sled, so it will be interesting to see how the Paragon works with that, but I'm sure it will be a rocket. Right now I've got a 55* helix in the paragon, and it came with a 58*. Hoping after I get the 827 put in that I can run the 58 out in the mtns.

If your straight 58* won't hang on to the belt try a 58X55 in the mountains. Straight 58* flat rips if sled isn't loaded too hard. but -------------

I am running a straight 58 with the new silver compression spring and all updates. Up front I have a Poo red/white, 55base/66 loaded heavy hitters. Still putting the finishing touches on the tip weight on the next ride.

How much boost?
I'm sorry, I tried the compression spring set-up and on a given day in a given condition when the stars align and you went to church on Sunday--- it works. ( you get the picture I'm sure)
Taper cut the outer piece @ the hub inside the spring on a lathe, ( I can't remember how much). Maybe .025" MAX!!!
Just try to clean up any coil bind marks. Use your best judgement of course!!!!!!!!!!!
Run a AC Snow Pro Green with ZERO twist @ initial set-up.
Start out with your track @ 1/2" twist and DON'T GO OVER 1" total twist.
Snow conditions / load changes, change the twist in a minute!!!!
SMALL, I SAID SMALL, adjustments. These suckers are really sensitive. ( Just like Duane made them!!!!!!!!)

I was running the parogon from its inseption ,on 1160 cat and tryed for a year and never got close, at that time I think there wasn't enough R&D done. I now have a 2011 M-8 153 5000ft to 9000ft It would be nice to put the $800 paper weight to use any setups that have worked?

Do you have the Paragon built for the Diamond drive? All the other Paragons are different and last I checked all you can do is find a used one for Diamond dr.( Duane is not making them anymore as they quit them).
If you have the correct clutch, we're doing ok with something like a 58X55 depending on your snow / conditions. "Champagne Powder" or low load conditions a straight 58 is wicked if it will hang on to the belt. Call Duane for the latest updates as there are some good ones!
Let me know if you want to sell it, I have customers looking all the time.
