pants melting

Most guys gotta be riding with regular suits and pants. What are you doing so the pants don't melt? I was looking at some havocs, but just bought a new onsie end of last year and would love to use it. What are you guys doing?

Good pipe guard is enough on my 4 stroke, on my 2 stroke i wear a nomex gaiter made by Dragonwear over my regular Klim snowmo pants.

I had my CRF450R’s header wrapped for most of the summer but took it off after it bleached and turned pink. I converted it to a snowbike for the first time last week. Bought a Akro (Chinese copy) pipe guard off fleabay for $20. Hoping to save the pants with it. But if it’s not working, I’m going back to wrap, but a higher quality that will not bleach...but it may steam all the time..so I’m hoping the guard does the trick.

pipe guard

I have had wrapped pipe and pipe guards on my last 4 snow bikes and no burnt Klims yet.

The best pipe guard is to cut a wide strip .100 thick aluminum about 4" wide, begin drilling and cutting.

drill 3/16 holes every .800 in a line about 1 1/4 in from each side, then with a band saw or jig saw cut from edge to the hole, made a couple feet of the stuff, now it will bend to fit any pipe, clamp on with hose clamps and check them every few rides. On the front bend of the pipe it keeps sticks/bush/ice from working over your pipe wrap. Nice little evening project to make riding next sat safer and more fun.

I opted to not wrap the pipe, but installed a guard instead. Just didn't like the sound of the extra steam you get from the wrap. I have no experience with the wrap - just what I heard.

Then... when a buddy of mine and I swapped bikes for a minute, I burned my pants on his unprotected pipe. So I bought a pair of Fly snowbike pants with the leather patches on the legs.

P3 pipe guard and done.... Who doesn't like carbon fiber?

Unfortunately there is another issue with non snowbike specific pants though. You will likely wear the ars out of any other pants or suit you use. I wore out 2 sets of klim klimate bibs before switching to havocs. I never really wore out any klim gear before that. The butt still looks fine and is not torn or frayed but simply will not be waterproof after a while. Having a soggy ars sucks!! On another note.. tried a Tobe velox suit, much nicer than the havocs.
