Packing gear on a new sled ?

Ok what are the best options for packing on all the gear on your new sled? The lack of storage on these sleds,must have led to some creative thinking !

I use a HMK backpack and a Skinz tunnel pack. It works good for me. The tunnel pack can be easily removed and left in the truck when you want to ride hard.

I currently use a Dakine Heli-Pro back pack... but am thinking about getting one of these to help take some weight off of my back this year... literally

they don't keep your stuff dry. if you want dry gloves and jacket and what not oh my, you have to put them in some kinda of ziploc baggie...the heat exchangers underneath the bag makes things get all wet.

also what top said...backpack...

and you can buy a new seat (boss) they have some storage for drinks and some small stuff.

Most of the stuff goes in my backpack. I also have a sno bunje hadlebar bag that will hold camera, snack, beanie, etc.
Anything related to avy rescue or survival stays on me, not the sled.

I saw that Seattle Sports makes a dry bag that is a half cylinder shape that has all kindof straps on it, really contimplating buying one for how cheap they are and my experiences with Seattle Sports products. Besides a backpack, thats the way I'd go!

I like to ride......not pack chit.

Snowmobile and backpacking.....2 different things for me.

I ride with shovel, probe, beacon, radio and a bunch of other stuff but I dont strap on a duffle bag. I dont use the bullet proof vest, camel pack or the inflatable safety device.

Between space under the hood, seat compartment, and a little saddle bag that goes in the space between taillight and seat on the 03 zx that is all the space I need.

In a nut shell..store the emergency things that you need on your body! Like a probe, beacon, first aid kit, granola bars, water bottle, zip-ties, extra gloves, radio, head thing, whatever! store all the next to important things on your sled. yup. :D

I use a back pack, and a PowerMadd handlebar bag with the help of a cargo caddy and under seat storage.. I dont pack a lot of things in with me to tell the truth. :)

As little as I can get away with.I have never used a backpack,except for backpacking,and I don't plan on it now. However,I do carry enough to survive at least one night.

:eek::eek:

Where do you carry your shovel and probe; for when you and your buddies get caught in a slide and get blown off your sled? You can't find your sled, but you use your beacon to locate your buried friend......then what?:( Backpacks are the only way to go for both storage, and safety. I don't even notice I'm wearing my BCA Stash pack anymore, it actually feels strange to be on my sled without it on my back. :beer;

Some of us can remember riding when the only thing you used a shovel for was to dig your truck out. No probes,no backpacks, no becons,no cell phones,no GPS,only alot more snow! Wow I am lucky to still be hear. A little comon sense can go along way as far as saftey. All I am asking is,with all the different products out there, which seem to be the best?

It seems clear that the majority uses a back pack of some sort. If that's not your thing then go with a tunnel bag and strap your shovel to the belt guard or something. I use a camelbac hydration pack, no need to carry water bottles, pack shovel on out side, inside is probe, first aid kit, extra clothing, plastic bags, extra light and batteries, some food items, mule tape, knife and any other item I think I need for the day. Oh yeah, beacon is under the first layer of cloths. I even think they make a small pack for just the shovel and probes if you want.

hey springer, I use the polaris tunnel bag on our sleds.works great roughly 6 in. by 15 in. by 15 in....also has external pockets for shovel handle and shovel....this is a picture of my sons sled with it.........Picture 099.jpg

Trailer

a trailer !!!! :eek: J/K like others a backpack :D

Hey Speedddemon,
I was going to recommend this but you bet me to it.

Tim, I saw one of those cool Arctic Cat trailers for sale that folks used to haul a couple kids in, that would work great, you could bring a grill, food, tent, sleeping bags, couple bottles of wine and still have room for 10-15 gallons of extra gas. We could put a titanium hitch on the sled to keep the weight down.
Kidding aside, you can get a small dry bag from REI or Sierra trading post and put in between the gas rack and the seat or in the gas rack when you don't need to bring extra fuel, the nose cone on the IQRs have lots of room and it is a good spot for things you don't need on your body, A back pack has saved my spine a couple times when I flew over the front and landed on my back in the trees, I don't feel comfortable not wearing one, it feels like a helmet for my back, I know you have been riding for a long time so I guess it's what ever you get use to, but I've also gotten use to hard knee and shin pertection and a tek vest within the last couple years and now they are as comfortable as wearing gloves.
