packin' a gun while riding

I was reading a couple posts and ran across a post where guys were packin'. anyone else a gun totin' sled head?

I know there are the naysayers, but here in the us it is our forefather given right to bear arms........for another few weeks, and although I don't typically pack......or do I;) I did witness a guy smoke a tree with an old phazer and then pop the hood, pull out his gun and shoot it twice:eek: I shyed away as I consider wrecking myfault, but he just gave to her. he did not seem upset, so we asked WTF?

dudes pipe was squished and the sled could not run with it squished......so he shot it.......twice.

IMO that kind of conduct is irresponsible and ridiculous. As far as packing while riding, we have done it many times up here. Whether it was for hunting or just protection. We can still be riding here when bears are breaking out of their dens in the spring. I dont want to meet a hungry bear who just woke up on the trail. I have also had run ins with angry moose on trails as well. When the snow gets too deep, they go where the travel is easiest, on the hardpack. Several times weve been charged but never had to shoot thankfully.

You guys want us to carry guns...........We get arrested for not covering offroad lights or not having enough tiedowns on our sleds I could only imagine if I had a colt 1911 strapped to my riser.

we had some moose issues last winter, i think the holster might end up on a time or two... we shall see after i get the tek vest and try things on then, might not fit so well.

ya, but here when the cops rush a guy he gets guns poked in his face and beat down. up there they don't have guns, so do the cops just yell "stop.....or I will yell stop louder!!!"

seriously, if our country ever starts grabbing up our rights there is gonna be trouble. ask england.

Geez, it must be dangerous down there in the USA. Right to bear arms or not I can not say once have I felt the want or need to carry a handgun or any gun up on the mountain for a day of boondockin on a snowy mountain side. Maybe your mountains are different than our mountains, but we have moose and bears and caribou and squirrels and whiskeyjacks too and I dont need a .45 too keep the the crows from stealing my sandwich...

And if I go up on the hill in my klim gear with a bunch of buddies to ride for the day, I am not tempted to bring a gun just incase I see something to hunt. Kinda sounds like a lame excuse unless you have your skinning knife, drag sled, and gear with you to dress and take care of the animal and the desire to leave everyone else behind... sorry guys, I am gonna stop riding now, I saw something to kill over there, enjoy your mountain trip...

And I a not some anti gun person saying this. I have a closet full myself. Got 2 whitetail just a few weeks ago to fill the freezer and enjoy shooting when the chance to get the rifles out comes around. Maybe things are just different in Canada.

ps, if I wanna ride in the snowies or Cooke one day, is there a place nearby that rents out guns along with beacons and hotel rooms, just so I can be prepared for the dangers on the mountain?

remember that when you wave to the guys cleaning out your parking lots.

here in the US life is not about "needs" hell, we don't "need" turbos, or lift kits or even sleds, but we have the right to keep that stuff. I hop our government never starts deciding what it is that we "need". you really just "need" food water and shelter.

never hunted or shot at an animal but i do like shooting dead trees and other stuff. why pay at a range

I carry my 357 in my pack, only reasoning for that is if we all 4 or 5 of us get stranded (very unlikely) we do have something with us for protection or to shoot one another and turn into cannibals........... ya never know when you might see sasquatch too, i'll bag him if I see em'!!!!!

I always pack a pistol. Nice to have if you ever had to spend the night. Especially with the amount of wolves we have now

i always carry my glock 23

How are you packing it? Just bought an XD .40. My wife was going to let my kids get me a holster for Christmas but not sure which one to get. Any ideas for MX Mt. riding and snowmobiling?

Hay Sawyer, we have had wolf spottings now too. That's always fun with kids at the cabin.

galco inside the pant holster with a snap over the top so it wont ever fall out. i dont even notice that it is there. is your xd a compact? i know the new xdm and a little bigger to fit more ammo.

Not uncommon for ranchers up here to have rifle behind the seat or a .22 for some gopher punishment when your checkin the cows or to blast some coyotes, handguns though are to be used only on a range and supposed to only be carrying them to or from a range.Cant even buy one unless you join a gunclub.

You bring up some good points, just to reiterate my experience comes from a pure utilitarian standpoint. We actually were hunting, hauling supplies in and out, and breaking new trail. I have never felt the need to carry while im recreational riding. You could also use a gun to signal for help, or start a fire with the powder, i dont know.
