OVS propane guys, check in.

So what are yo doing for filling, same as your BBQ, or can you transfer from a larger tank in your trailer.

Yes you can fill from a larger tank from a trailer if setup correctly for liquid withdrawal. Johnmaster has mentioned that he just fills some forklift cylinders and transfers to the sled. The forklift tanks are about the biggest you can pack around without a hassle. Finding used forklift cylinders (horizontal!!!) is easy and you could have a stash ready to go.

Weight is a wash between petrol v LPG kits.

I'm not sure how they could integrate those tanks any better. The only way would be a square storage under the seat and those would be even more costly to manufacture and wouldn't meet any DOT requirements. Simply put i doubt their insurance would allow anything different then what they have. I like their current solution.

weight being equal... I'll have to disagree with 100%. It's not HUGELY heavy, or anything like digging out a 4 stroke (thank god!) but there is ZERO question this it is a ways heavier. from tanks to regulator... it just weighs more.

As for the tank, if if was shorter, and didn't have breakable parts on the outside, I'd be willing to invest the extra $$, but I just can't have that stuff sticking out of the back of the seat. If it's $1500 more for a better tank, then probably not worth it, but if you could have a more form fitting tank for $500 or so more, I think it would sell more kits.

Either way, awesome kit that runs great, but I'm hoping for more refinement.

I agree completely, I wasn't implying it was truly equal i just was touching on the fact that its not a major disadvantage for the majority of us. I realize you like your weight loss as do the rest of us. But if i was truly worried about it i wouldn't pack half the tools that i currently do. :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap. The weight is also isolated more towards the rear of the sled compared to a regular gas tank so that may be a disadvantage.
If anything this thread will give OVS some insight on some potential customers needs. But from a manufacturing standpoint i think the costs and liability would be overwhelming. About all they could do is make a shorter tank option.

OVS posted the weight comparisons once but for general reference...(My assumptions with general calculations)
14 Gallons propane = 58.8 lbs (most likely 12 gallons liquid) =49.3
11 Gallons gas= 66.803 lbs.
They stated that with a single 12 gallon tank it was 19lbs. I don't know what the two 7-gallon tanks equipped with everything weigh. But it will be more than 19lbs... Including the regulator and mixer. It does add up and may be material depending on the customer. Valid point and well taken!

:) go figure that I would need to fill more than once per week...Maybe I need a 40 gallon tank.

I didn't put the tanks on a scale but with the tanks and hoses and filler manifold I bet it picked up a few lbs from the single tank they had made for their prototype. To do it again I would have gotten the shorter tank option that they offered me. Just like about everyone I was scared about range but after using it I found that if I actually just fill it up in the morning I can go way longer than a n/a sled and be playing harder the whole time.

In Wyoming I went out with 6 other sleds for the day, most of the n/a m8's used 9 gallons to go 70 track miles, I had about 3 or 4 gallons left. Also, I can burn mine down to the fumes, they need about a gallon sloshing in the bottom of the tank to keep running on various inclines and accel/braking.

The thing I learned in Colorado: If it has been running flawlessly all day, and you hit det once, you have about 3-5 miles of light throttle cruising left and you will be out of fuel. Head for home! Sled had to sleep on the hill overnight one night because I assumed I had more than I actually did.

Gotta be honest... can't think of ever having a time where I was on my 3RD DAY on a tank of gas though... that would be cool!:high5:

Woot woot!

Working on videos today, here is how I spent the last day. More propane videos to come.

Also this Propane 10 M8 and my 09 Crossfire are for sale. If someone wants to get into a great running propane sled for much less than building one let me know. I am an OVS dealer, hoping to have propane on my next sled when a kit becomes ready.

Think I'll go with the larger tanks. Going to a 174X3" track next year and will have the longer tunnel anyways. Really impressed with a XP I rode with the 174X16X3" track with a stock motor on our last trip.

I'm maxxed out what I can do with the stock Powerclaw passed 10lbs of boost.

I actually spent a decent amount of time on his but certainly didn't do anything cool with it. We swapped on the way back to the truck for awhile. Otherwise he would come get me out of a stuck and make a lap with it. This was day seven of riding for a flatlander so I was basically riding exhausted half of the time. Can't remember the cost but it was well worth it, the Burandt family are excellent hosts, nothing but good things to say!

Give Travis a call at OVS for info on the pro. No timing change but the head was reconfigured. Just for more info I geared mine up to the 1000 gears 60/60 and added 11 grams more weight and it pulls hard and way faster. Very noticeable against a race gas m8 on the hill with stock 55/65 gearing. I'm sure Klimbing Kitty may chime in on this.:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap

Yeah yeah. once i ran out of gear you passed me like I was standing still. Very impressed with the bbq sled:face-icon-small-ton. Thanx for calling me out there Kenny:boxing:

Auction didn't meet my reserve, Sled will be for sale at Hay Days in the Snow Studs booth. See you there!

I might be trying to sell too early in the season but I would like not to have 3 sleds in the garage. Asking for $13,600 now, only going to get higher the closer we get to real snow season. Anyone?

That is a great deal on an LP turbo. Someone should grab it quick! These things rock!
