Are there any other options to getting these compressed nitrogen canisters refilled other than exchanging them through a dealer? $40 is ridiculous. I can get compressed air refilled for $4. I guess I should have never went with Ortovox.

ABS?

I believe the base system on those are still ABS, that being the case, you are stuck with the exchange process.

Unbelievable. I'll definitely be sending this airbag down the road. I'll get one that uses compressed air and can be filled at any scuba shop for about four bucks!!!

Exactly why I use BCA, that and they have a gauge where I can verify pressure before leaving the truck. Something about a sealed bottle with no gauge just doesn't sit well with me. I have access to high pressure Nitrogen, so I fill all my own bottles.

It's also unbelievable that you weren't aware of this before/when you purchased. Your complaint is the basis of their marketing campaign. Nothing wrong with the product(it might even be the most proven system in the industry), just poor purchasing.

Again, just like the OP, some people like myself don't like the idea of a system failure hinging on a o-ring. Or the possibility of moisture issues. Or a frozen pull cable. As unlikely as they may be, it's on your mind. That's why there are choices and plenty of info to help make a good one. Some put preference on ease of refilling while others are willing to give a little in that area to have what they feel is a superior system in the event of a avalanche. To each their own.
