Oregon, what in the hell is wrong with you people?

Yup leave it up to the socialist libbies on the coast to put this into effect! Like Ollie says they have to run their social programs...like paying the rent/food of a parolee.

So uh.......

The beer tax in Oregon is among the lowest in the country at less than a penny a glass. Lawmakers in the state say that the time has come to bump that up to the national average.

Don't get me wrong, I live off the fruit from Full Sail and Deschuttes breweries so it sucks for those guys......the state is no longer as much of a haven for small beer makers. But it sounds like Oregon was a special case to begin with. This isn't some widespread liberal attack (), it's a state with a crappy economic situation looking for a solution. Oregon's been in the red for a long time. And if you've ever been there in the winter, you can probably understand why there's an alcoholic problem......that place is friggin dreary :D

So bootlegging in beer would be buying the exact same beer for the exact same price and then bringing it over state lines. Not the lucrative enterprise exactly. 1900% sounds excessive but not when you're starting from almost zero.

But like I said, I do hope this doesn't cripple the companies who have enjoyed the lack of tax on their products previously and have completely structured their business model around it. I've been drinking stuff from Deschuttes and Rouge River breweries for over a decade now. I don't see them being ditched by the average consumer just because they cost about what all the other microbrews cost though.

Oregon's just like every other state in terms of beer taxing now. It's not the end of the world. People drink beer in those other states too.:beer;

Wrong.
In a liberal state the free ride is just beginning.
They need to stop TaxTaxTax, and start cutting off the free ride.

If you want to drink yourself to death, go for it. Just don't expect me to pay for it.

When the government convinces enough people that having money is evil, then it is ok to tax everyone to death. If the government would get the heck out of peoples lives, we would be much better off.
We already have class warfare in the US.
We need to remind people that the american dream is to succeed. The american dream is NOT to work hard so more people can sit on their azz and watch TV. The american dream is NOT to pay as much in taxes as the government can possibly squeeze out of you.

Now people will have a reason for hitting the "RED" button.. LOL

the only solution to get America out of their "toilet" is to make the people poorer, and that will go right across the board. The time of printing funny munny is over. Sorry to put it that way, but why else would such a superpower be spiraling?
You have a choice not to pay that tax.
And for the peeps blaming Obama for the economy, It takes more than a couple of months to make an economy fail. more like a decade...

The hog is no longer high, in case you didn't notice.;)

County to pay $250,000 to advertise lack of funds.

Byline: Matt Cooper The Register-Guard

Lane County will spend up to $250,000 this year publicizing its tight financial picture, in hopes that voters in November will approve higher taxes for public-safety services.

It's an amount for county spending on publicity that has been unparalleled

This was from 2006, but it does seem somewhat backwards, even in today's standards of (in)excellence.
