Options for my 11 year old son

The 150R has plenty of power to turn the 120 track of the Mototrax. It was a fun alternative to a full size bike. Moto trax made a few fit kits for the 150 and I was lucky enough to get one. Give them a call and get one, you won't be disappointed. As someone said, kids are expensive, may as we have fun!

Thanks for the info. That’s what I’m leaning towards. I have a number of a guy who has one and may sell. I just need to make the call and get the details.
 
The wait is over. Here are the first raw fitment pics. The build up bike is a 2014 CRF150R with a 2019 Yeti 120SS w/ YSS Soft Strut third link of suspension.

We achieved a 3 1/4” seat height reduction from a 2019 Honda CRF450R with a 2020 Yeti 129 Free Ride, with ZERO suspension compromise. This bike has full travel front and rear with everything you expect from a Yeti. The seat height can even get shorter by at least an 1 1/2” by compromising suspension.

The stock foot peg even has room outside of the belt drive with the 10 inch wide system. You can see the comparison between the 150 and 450 in pictures below.

A 65 pound 10-year-old looks perfect on the size of bike.

Honda CRF150R with a Yeti 120SS



The Honda has a 4” lower seat height than all full sized bikes, and offers real power. Granted, it is not big power but it is so much more than all 4 stroke 125cc's and down.



I am shooting for a complete package that will weigh in under 240 and be something that will fill this 9-14 age market, and the new to snow biking women's market. There is a huge gap here and there is a need to have something.



There have been a few of these bikes built with 120 wide kits, and the builders have said they work well. This Yeti 120SS narrow system should be perfect.

Now that I have verified fitment, I have to produce the fitment parts, then yours will be on the lift. I’m stocked you son is excited. I’m still few weeks out. I will have yours done in two weeks, but Camso has not delivered on the uncut 120SS tracks. I have been riding there ass weekly, all summer to get me my uncut tracks. I hope they come through. If not it will still be Awesome!! And cost you less.

For my 9 yr old son we built up a 2017 ktm xcf 250 with reckluse added a 2012 sx120 race timbersled setup ,really rocks for him being narrow ,Also being a FI bike when he tips over the bike easy starts up compared to a carb bike and the elevation changes are minimal .

Agreed.

The crf150r is an unreliable, high maintenance bike.
(Needs a complete motor redesign)

25-40 hour lifespan on the head.

Then valves, seats, cam etc.

Total Russian roulette on the bottom end.

Ty’s little CRF150R and Yeti 120SS ride better than we expected, even with the big kid’s on it!!! This little bike performed so well today.

Luke working the little CRF150R withe the Yeti 120SS. Luke is about 160lbs. This bike WORKS!!!! This snow was bottomless, trenching kind of snow. No hard base here.

Any starting issues with the CRF150R? I've heard they can be very cold blooded and temperamental to start. Any issues with engine temperatures - or not a worry on a carbureted bike so much?
 
With shortening the ARO’s shocks and spindle, I can flat foot my older ktm525sx. It is definitely lower now
than with the wheels on it. I’m only 5’9” tall. Makes it much easier to ride and less falling over in the parking lot. Definitely something to consider. I would consider a good 250 or 350 4 stroke with a Timbersled that has the shortened shocks and spindle. Fun times!
 
I am considering putting the TS Ripper on my sons KLX110. I know it won't do anything crazy but I am hoping he can have fun it on the snow that has a base.

My son (11yr) just spent 3 season on a Ripper 93 on a TTR110. It performed better than my expectations. It was quite good. But he is ready to step up. The ripper was good in certain snow conditions - deep snow: good on flat not hills. Set-up snow: can go good in most situations. Hard spring snow: go anywhere.

Looking at options now - looking to put him on a CRF150R with a TS Riot 120 S Sport. Just worried about starting that bike in the cold and engine temperature control. Also, looking for input on the fit up - is it doable with some custom machined bushings? Or a no go.

If anyone has an idea what would be the closest fit kit to start with.

Or maybe the CRF150R is not a suitable bike for a snowbike since it is a pain to start. He has ridden my WR450 with a Riot 3 around - but he would have more fun on something smaller. A lot of tree riding around my area.

I would like my son to be able to ride the 150 in the summer as well - mostly trail riding.
 
Jetted correctly the 150r will be fine with the right oil…. Depending on his size you could just move him to a 2 stroke full sized bike… I ran my son from 11 on with a yz250…. Till he was 14 .

Advantage of the 2 stroke is you don’t have to worry about them dumping it upside down running and losing oil. If he did lose it he would need help getting back on but honestly that was rare once he started getting the hang of it after 1 day… kids learn so fast he will be leaving you in the dust in no time.

Also run a trailtech to track your kid they get lost easy when they are that young on the trees and a Walki is not enough…when you ask where they are and they say by the trees and deep snow ;)
