i would like to get some opinions from people who do a lot of video editing as to which software is the best. i have heard people say they like mac's for editing? yes, no? what is the "best" software for a pc?

also is there a general consensus as to the minumum hardware (computer) requirements.

thanks

we dont do do alot of video editing but bought a program this last spring called pinnecle studios and it seems to work great.this is a cheaper program though compared to programs used to make movies like thunderstruck and boondockers and such, but it puts movies together real well in my opinion

I'm trying to get a feel for Premiere Pro CS3 during off-season. Doesn't seem to be real user-friendly at first. Hopefully I'll get it figured out before I want it to count....lol.

I use Pinnacle Studio 11 plus. Like said above, it's affordable and about as easy to figure out as they get. A good starter package. I demo'd Vegas Pro 8, Adobe Premier pro and a few others. They are a little pricey and complex, definitely more powerful than Pinnacle, but I figured they were more than I needed at this stage of my video career. lol

thanks for the info. so what do the pros use? is there one specific program or is it an individual preference?

Cory Dawg!! - the windows bundle free stuff works great and is easy to use.....but, if you want more knobs and cool stuff to tweak with.....may i suggest Adobe Premiere, i use it and love it....easy enough add music and tweak frames and whatnot. I think its only 100ish bucks, but free if you rip it:)

i run a rippin' mac G5 quad with 8 gigs of RAM...a phat screen and the Final Cut Pro studio suite with Livetype, Motion 3, Soundtrack and Color. Video goes to an 8 terabyte raid-server.

I use After Effects CS for all my compositing and graphics along with a little photoshop.

Export to Compressor and author on DVD Studio Pro.

lots of fun but a little spendy...this is the primary set up we've put in most of the ABC owned stations in the country as well.

The entry level approach to this would be as big an Imac as you can afford, Final Cut Express and DVD studio pro. Always put your video to an external drive (not the hard drive built into the computer) or you're asking for trouble.

have fun! :)

I run the Adobe CS3 package. You can do top notch work with it, but be patient, not the most stable platform. Still wouldnt trade it for anything though. You can do some amazing stuff with AE. And overall it's pretty affordable when factoring in the cost of a supped up PC vs mac.

There is only one LOL. Final Cut Pro or better yet Final Cut Studio 2. As JLowe says a little After Effects for touch up/Graphics. Apple rocks !

My kids use Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 7.0 for helmet cam stuff and Pinnacle Hollywood FX for Studio for video game capture stuff.

^^^^I just got wood^^^^

And may I suggest the RAID drive for sure and then about every hours you spend editing, update/move your work in progress to another drive. In other words, DUPLICATE YOUR WORK! and dont forget to hit save every 10 minutes if you get ADOBE, LMAO!

Ask the MAC guys about blu-ray authoring!!! LMAO, viva la PC ;)

LOL! just because i didn't release a blu-ray version of Elevation 4 this year
doesn't mean i COULDN'T.

it's simple economics bro...but you know that.

http://fastmac.com/slim_bluray.php

not enough peeps out there with blu-ray players yet to offset 6X the cost of duplicating versus a standard def DVD for the number of vids we move.
(not to mention the sony licensing fees which are ridiculous).

still, i gotta hand it to you for taking a bullet for the rest of us by doing a blu-ray run.

i will say this...i NAILED a sweet HD to standard def DVD compression that will make your 50-inch plasmas out there cry. those who have seen our film already know what i'm talking about. it took about a month of trial & error but this down-convert is SUPER-DUPER clean and is the absolute best HD to standard-def DVD you will see. it was not a standard setting.

anywhoo...you can get blu-ray for macs now...so they're better again. :face-icon-small-win

LOL.

I would strongly recomend an apple for film editing! I spent many of hours using different programs and I have found Final Cut Pro has been the best for me and is really user friendly!!

not actually for me but for a friend who is into doing a lot of video stuff. sounds like a mac is the overall preference.

howdy hatch, so how's utah?
