opinions on single cab truck

so, im getting my first truck this spring, and im getting it to go wheelin with and just have fun. the local shop that i would do all the work to lift it and what not has a single cab tacoma for sale with all the work i want already done...am i really gonna hate the single cab? or should i just deal, this truck is meant to get me through highschool and hopefully college, no more. its a 2001, but has had some days on the trail, which is why its cheap. engine seemes to be sound, just some cosmetic problems....opinions please:face-icon-small-hap

I'd buy whatever is cheap and will hold up well enough right now unless your parents are giving you a lot of help.

I'd definatley prefer an extended cab truck just to keep my backpack and whatnot outta the weather, but if I couldn't afford one on the budget I was on I wouldn't hesitate to get a regular cab truck if it was in good shape ...

Don't do like I did when I was 19 and think you gotta spend every dime you made on this bright and shiny new truck ... you'll have to put off college for a few years cuz you'll be too busy paying it off :(

heh :)

Get whatever is cheap that you can drive the hell out of and not care how scraped up it gets then get yourself a nice new shiny truck after you graduate college and have a decent paycheck ....

The extra room is nice but unless you packa lot of crap around like I do, it will work fine. If you nee more roon add a box or topper to it. Yodas will run forever, Im on number five. Old beater single cab2x4 grocery getter. Saves me four dollars on every trip to town over the big truck.

Regular cab isn't so bad. I have an F-150 that way. I put my stuff in a Rubbermaid container in the box when I don't feel like jamming behind the seat. I find the Rubbermaid works well everything stays dry in the summer if it rains. If you've got no passenger you can always put your gear in the front seat too. My next truck will have a back seat and four doors though.

the other thing that is good about the regular cab ...

If you get a girlfriend, she can do the whole "Redneck Scoot" thing ..

Ya know, you see a guy and a girl riding around in the truck and the girl is sitting in the center of the seat as opposed to the other side?

Yeah there ya go .... hahaha :)

exactly what i was thinking, my parents offered to throw down, but honestly there are so many kids at school who have shiny new ones that they then back into a parking divider, whats the point? my only question is, will a dirt bike fit in back? what about with a box? its definently not a long box....

yes a dirt bike will fit you have to take the front tire and get it close to the bed side then take the rear tire and put it against the opposite side of the box and the tail gate will shut, two bikes though tailgate has to be down, another bad thing about trucks with lifts and big tires, ball joints and bearings will be replaced little more then stock and tie rods

A lifted reg cab looks cool. It's market is a bit limited. but get a lockable bed cover and tailgate lock and a rubber mat to secure your gear. This will leave you room for your bike and secure your gear.

I know one thing when I had my single cab truck I hated it.

I couldn't get my gangster lean on.

true dat playa, can't fit as many subs/amps in a reg cab either. holla atcha boi.

It wouldn't hurt to wait a little bit longer before you lay the cash down for that taco, see if anything extended comes up. Having the backseats do come in handy; specially for sledding.

thats what im starting to think, and a good friend just advised me, with a single cab i can fit my buddy in the truck with me, with extended i can squeeze 4 girls.....

My first was a regular cab shortbed Ram 1500 with a toolbox... Real glad I had that toolbox in the back. It was a good truck, had it all through college and traded up a few years ago for a newer extended cab Ram that I have today. Extended cab is nice, but not necessary for a first truck.

I've fit a dirt bike in the bed of mine with the toolbox in, run the front tire against the toolbox and leave the tailgate down. Ramp slides nicely under the toolbox.

I dislike dryers that take two runs to dry a load of clothes.

those 4 girls must not be from MT or it's one hell of a squeeze!!

I had 2 10's and an amp and man that blew. Ya look real cool bumpin down the street sitting straight up and down.

Go with the extender if ya can, keep ya pimp hand strong. Just remember YA AIN'T GOT TO LIE TO KICK IT -- Ice Cube.

All this talk about rolling around corners on three waving a rag makes me want to put a system in my car.....WOOOOOOOORRRDDDD!

there's no way 4 girls with merc jackets are getting in a toyota! unless just leaving marks bar and you stack 'em in the back, it's not gonna happen!

you've never been to mcgregor, mn!

back to the topic at hand though... reg cab trucks are fine. i've had 3 and liked all of them, just need a toolbox or something in the back to carry extra stuff. that being said, i now drive a 4 door full size but i'm not in school any longer either. good luck with you decision.
