Opinions Arctic Cat 1M 900 Mountain Cat...

Have 2004 1M 900 EFI 159".

The sled does everything I want it to do. Handles the deep snow well and have not had any mechanical problems with it. During really cold mornings it can be a bear to start. Only option at times is to remove plugs to turn over a couple of times and then will start. Must get that motor to turn over for the battery less system to charge up to start. I was told a little WD 40 in each hole when BDC would help in starting. Have not tried it. I was told this is better then starting fluid that I used once. Starting fluid is to explosive and can cause damage to engine. I got a chance to ride a new style Polaris 600 RMK and really liked the ease of turning. Turns quicker then my 900 but the power isn't anywhere close in my opinion. I don't have to take a run at a hill to get up it. The newer chassis style maybe the way to go but still happy with my sled. IM is a time tested bullet proof sled in my opinion.

The 04 and newer have a lighter easy to remove seat that the 03 didnt have. Get a hight rise seat and a good bar riser and you will love this sled.

The 03 has the same seat as the 04 the only difference was the color and it is removable, the 02 seats were not removable, and the 02's did not have the drop and roll, the only difference between the 03's and the 04's was that in 04 you could get the 900 with EFI, it was also the first year for the king cat which was not available with EFI

Best used sled for the money in my opinion. I love my KC. Although it's got alot of mods it rides the best of all my sleds. I love the power of my TRX-1, but it can really wear on you by the end of the day because of the front end weight. If you buy a Mountain Cat one thing that is a must is a flattop Boss seat! The stock seat is WAY to low. The power comparison between your 700 MM and the 900 cat isn't even a challenge. The torque and hp of the 900 will have you grinning! Good luck with your hunt!

I just purchased a 04 mountain cat 900

I just purchased a 04 mountain cat 900 and am a little nervous about the weight and power. I have only ever really rode 700s. I am hoping I did not get to far over my head. Just seeing what people think

Talk to me after your first few rides.... you'll be in love. Remember that you do have a throttle and you don't have to run it wide open all the time. Feather that thing!

Damn, all this time I thought it needed to be WFO?? Sure feels good having my arms stretched...:D

I highly recomend getting it i got the 03 900 and i have road the piss out of mine. i got prolly about three thousand or more hard miles on it and it screams. They are so easy to work on unlike the new sleds. I gutted my air box put heel clicker weights on it and twin d and d pipes on it and i am getting over two hundred horse power and trust me i am really hard on my sleds and my sled is still going. I am one of those guys that they say more balls than brains and thats exactly right so if i were you i would get rid of that yamaha ****ter and buy yourself that arctic cat.

Over 200 hp, no sh!tt?? Badazz sled. lol

Like a few people have said, bar riser for your height, Boss Hi-Rise Flat-top seat (narrow), get rid of a20 track and throw on a Camo Xtreme 162x16x2.5, buddy had this setup with sled junkys brackets,and nitrous. Sled ran great, even without nitrous or those 200+ HP MODS.:D:face-icon-small-win:beer;:beer;

Great sled!

I have totally enjoyed my 900 since the first mile put on it! The power is unbelievable! I had alot of problems with the recoil too... finally got a new one and a good one put on. It does seem like I put chaincase oil in mine more than normal but I was told that the first year I had her to check it frequently. For a 140 lb lady, she's a heavy boat to manuever side-hilling and boondocking, but she sure flies up the hill and on the line. It does have a low seat but I don't sit much. Snow eliminators would definately be a must. A very dependable sled, I'm sure gonna miss her and I know the new owner will fall in love.

Mine is for sale (not for trade) if anyone is interested. PM me.

I'll chime in with everyone else who says it's a great sled.

We haven't really had the chaincase problems that many people have, even though we run reverse on all of ours. You can move the steering post in front of the hoop, that supposedly makes the chassis feel more like the M-series. A single pipe is a great way to gain a little bit of power. If you need more than that, there are many big bore kits available.

A boss seat (or any other brand of high-rise) makes a big difference in the seating position.

200 horse from those mods NOT!!! He wants honest opinions. Ya the 900 cat is an awsome sled/motor,my friends/family own 6 of them. The two and a half inch tracks really turn them into animals.

Higher seat, some risers, move the steering post forward of the steering column(and associated steps) Snow Eliminators(Any brand) throw on a Camo Extreme 16 Wide and a pipe/can combo would would have kept Cat guys on 1M sleds for years.
Not to mention the basic chassis/ergonomics was introduced in late 1993.
We thought that is what was coming for 2005 originally. Well, a scaled down variation of it. Egro's, track and power increase.
Then get into the clutching and suspension work....it's a sled that could keep up to the new stuff and outlast much of what's being built today.
Many creative ways to modding these out as well.

If it is EFI go for it! My sled has a '04 with 159" track and works great. I had a bearing go out in my drive shaft at 2250 miles otherwise no problems. The only issue I have is starting it sometimes. Some times the engine seems to retain the cold more then other times and a rear bear to start. It has always started but sometimes I wondered. Once it warms up i can do it with one arm. Electric start maybe in our future? I added a Highjacker Jack along side of the tunnel an fits fine. The rear luggage rack is great and newer sleds seem to be missing this item. i also added a hitch in back for towing, etc.
