One year ago today I got a call at work letting me know that three of my friends had been killed in an Avalanche in the Snake River Range near Alpine Wyoming. What a year it has been. I sure do miss them.

Everyone be safe out there. Ride to Ride again!

RIP!!! Robert M Clark, Scott Smith, and Woodstove Bob!
GOD BLESS THE ONES THEY LEFT BEHIND!!!!

Here are a few pics of the avalanche site (Dead Horse Creek Drainage) taken the day after it happened.

This box was placed at the top of the ridge on July 13 of 2009. Right where they dropped into the draw on Feb. 27 2009.

Thats really too bad bro. God bless the ones you lost and their families. May they Rest in Peace.

I remember that day.

What a sad day.

I am sorry for your loss.

This has been a strange year here in Utah. There have been so many many avalanches involving snowmobiles and so few deaths. We must not allow ourselves to lose respect for the mountain and the real danger of avalanches.

We have lost so many wonderful people over the last few years and we want to see that number decrease to zero!!

Sorry for your loss! Thoughts are prayers to family and friends. :brokenheart: :rose: That would be the WORST phone call to ever get. :(

Ride safe, ride smart, and live to ride another day.

Thanks, for your kindness everyone.

Hope the pics don't offend anyone. A picture is worth a million words. Although they still do not do the size of the Avalanche justic!

Reading your post brings a tear and a lump in my throat. We lost a very well known friend, husband and father to our community last Easter. Shannon Erwin was taken by a slide in Baker Creek. I rode that area towards the beginning of the season. It was very creepy hopping from bowl to bowl and listening to the veteran rider with us telling us of the less fortunate men who had lost their lives up there in the last 10 years. I have never been afraid to die....but god bless the ones who are left behind. I am very sorry for your terrible loss, may they all rest in peace. To everyone else out there, please be careful. There are many ways to leave this world. It may seem noble to go out doing what you love. But please, next time you look at that untracked hillside, remember who is sitting at home, innocently playing with her Barbie collection, or racing his dump truck through the Barbies. Remember the one who is quietly milling around doing housework and impatiently waiting to receive her "OK" text message from your SPOT. They say that time passes and wounds heal, but do they really........................:brokenheart:

Avalanche

I remember returning from Las Vegas to Alpine last year and driving thru Soda and seeing the people gathered in the evening in town. I didn't know what happened until I got home. So sorry for your loss. I drive the Snake river canyon every day and there have been a lot of guys parked to ride that country and the snow is terrible this year. Thankyou for the reminder and the pictures. Hopefully it will warn people and keep them out of there. That was a huge slide. There are more pictures on jhavalanche.org under snow summary tab if you scroll back to the date. Be double careful out there everyone, slides everywhere, don't ride where you expose yourself to debris traps, trees, rocks and large slabs.
