OMG the search here sucks!!!

You know, I see this quite frequently but I guess this is the one complaint I don't have about this site. But I only use the advanced search and then plug in key words.

I hardly ever use it but when I do, I usually find what I'm looking for..

What are you looking for maybe we can help?

I do the same with good results

no matter what I type in the search takes me to the advanced page or something how annoying. no matter which one I use.

The Search Bar in the top right corner of your screen is NOT part of the SnoWest Forums software, and is in NO way tied into our database. And generally is a MAJOR PAIN IN THE BUTT that I have no control over and would very much like to see REMOVED from the site.

The only search engine that is part of the FORUMS SOFTWARE is this.
http://www.snowest.com/forum/search.php

That is tied directly into the SW database and SHOULD give you a good result if used correctly.

Cool thanks, Ill put google behind what I search like you mentioned. I would always open the forum I wanted like the pro ride forum then click the search button that said search this forum and just didn't seem to work for anything

Thanks

How do you get the search to only turn up information that contains both of the words you entered.

Say I want to search for "cylinder head bolts" - how do I enter it into the search bar to get only info that contains those three words in that order. I've tried cylinder+head+bolts with no luck.

Did you try with the quotation marks? Works that way in other search engines, not sure about SW.

Aha this is what I was looking for. Thanks Christopher.

Here is the key stuff:

Limitations
Minimum Word Length: 3 Characters
Can't search common words
Can't search special characters (alpha numeric only)

Basic Search Syntax
Search multiple words use Boolean operators such as:
- AND (ex. ajax AND instant)
- OR (ex. ajax OR instant)
- NOT (ex. ajax NOT instant) or use the minus sign (-) (ex. ajax -instant)
Search for an exact phrase using quotes:
- (ex. "instant email")
Search for wild cards using asterisks (*)
- (ex. *mail)

In all seriousness.
One of the major failings of the vBulletin system is their Search Engine.
This has been a real issue for us for YEARS that we have not been able to solve with inhouse coding.
