I am 69 and ride and ice fish 4 days a week. one partner is 75 and the other is 82. another couple are 63 and 66. We do like it if they keep the trails groomed well though. I like to catch my limit and then hit at least 80 mph a couple of times on the way home.

Any Senior citizens out there still riding? Just wanting to know who some of the oldest riders are still riding. Give hope to us all and tell us old guys....how do you do it?

Wyoming T/A and Idaho Slim dont count, they are a freak of nature

So......who's collectiong S.S. and still riding there tails off? I hope to ride when im still 50 pending nuclear war and solar powered sleds and the global warming bit

Trust me, gettin older aint a bad thing, it means "you know how to doo it!"

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I would guess Bob Clark from Cut Bank is getting up there, and I bet he STILL cheats:rolleyes: He was learning about big bores and plastic paddles, and, being everyones mechanic, he would NEVER let the whole cat out of the bag... "You need these 1 1/2" paddles!", as he is putting 2" on his own sled;) we need more of these guys; classy old guys who don't take no guff on the hill!

always smokes cherry 'baco in a pipe if your not sure who I'm talking about

I'm 41 and my Dad is 63. By the looks of the posts, we still have alot of years of riding together ahead of us.

snowmobiler is just about ancient I think...I mean, I have a hard time keeping up, but I think Christ was an alterboy back when he started riding...

oh, and Nate, don't hate on electric sleds...when they get around to it, they will be SICK! Instant torque...turbos got nothing on a DC motor.

I hope to ride when im still 50 pending nuclear war and solar powered sleds and the global warming bit

dude, when we get that old.....that'll prolly be true ^^^

im sure pretty much everyone will have a turbo by then and the lightest sled will be 250 lbs dry and it will be a REV XS (three different chassis AFTER the XP ;)) 1400 cc two-stroke, Camo 185x16x2.75 track and stock HP will be 180. :D:rolleyes:

yup.

Old Guys

In my 50's and still riding every weekend and when I retire I'll try and ride every other day ! I ride with a friend who is 62 and he is hard to keep up with. On a snowy, below zero day my 30 year old son and his buddies are usually ready to quit before I am. After 35 years of riding I still can get off on a 90mph blast across a meadow. If I ever have to give it up I will haul the Renegade in the house and use it for a couch !

I am 66 and ride a full mod M1000 with a 174" track, timbersled rear, d&d twins, ported cyls, head, reeds, intake,d&d clutching, air front shocks, mod ski's, 4 window digatron, 4" riser, lefty, tunnel extended, Boss seat,
I have a 09 D8 on order. I think I would like to try a turbo on it. Just don't know which one to order.
"They" say I have 225 hp on the M1000. But at 10,000' it is only 157.5. But with the turbo D8 I can run pump gas and have 215 hp at 10,000' . Now if that does not sound like fun ---- what is?

Heres an idea...

You know how cyclists for the winter bring there bicycles inside and put the rear tire up on a stand so they can ride it whenever they want to to keep in shape over the winter.

You could put your ski-doo up on a stand so you can ride it anytime you please:D

I will be 66 in July (Jeff C make note of this please! :face-icon-small-win ), and have been riding West, IP, and Tog since 1994.

Around the area where I live now, I ride with other old duffers in their early 70"s, and two of our bunch are 80.
We enjoy observing the people who pretend not to be looking at us when we stop for a break and walk in some place for a burger. :) The "who the.....", "what the....." kind of looks, lol.

Most of our 850+ mile trail system in the county is maintained by us 'seniors', from 11 independent clubs in the area, with 9 of those culbs grooming portions of the system.

Photo's below. Myself at age 30 (1972) on my 2nd sled, 1972 SST-SnoJet 340, with my Son on his sled. He will be 41 this weekend. :)

Pic of me and the S.O. from Togwotee, and another of me at Hatchett.

Keep on keepin' on.

My dad is 60, and he is one of the best boondockers I know. He's great.

I saw a guy in Sun Valley back in 1999 who was stuck in a tight chute. It was WAY up there. He was in a real kick azz climb. Major coup. He gets down and takes his helmet off...hair white as a ghost. He was 67. His daughter was a sherriff deputy in Blaine County...don't know his name, but her name is (WAS) Tasha Bradshaw. I'd bet he's still riding.

What about Simmons, isn't he in his 80s and riding that 350hp propane turbo'd IQ?

My pa is 60 and holds his own just fine.
Not to say he doesn't scare me at times, but still goes wherever we go.
His friends are between 60 and mid 70's and put about 5000 miles on per season.

damn Wiz a old school Suit even. Did you wear a true open face helmet with a big clear face shield? The original NFMH...

The suit: still have it! It's kinda in tatters anymore, but I wear it for working on sleds or changing oil , hauling fire wood, snow shoveling ,etc. (Winter months of course.)

Helmet: well, still have that around here somewhere. It was a full face helmet with a shield that snapped over the opening. No way to flip it up. Single thickness, and fogged up real bad.
Went to goggles with that helmet, but in those days quality goggles were unheard of. We used some cheapie safety type goggles. Not very effective either.
Don't have time to post photo's right now.

Attached is one photo of my mother's riding gear from that era, on her '72 Rupp. Photo was taken in 2002 when she was 92. She died in '06, age 96.
My dad made it to 88, his last sled was a a '73 Scorpion TK-400. Still have both machines in storage.
