Ok...new to cat...

Coming off an old polaris wedge I did amazingly well carrying a 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 10 mm wrench, sockets and ratchet, needle nose, Vise Grips, Pliars, standard and #2 phillips, spark plug wrench, one allen wrench, gapper, some wire, and some tape. And to be honest unless I was doing sheet metal work, I did not have to deviate from that list too much in the garage either.

What do I need for the new M8? Just tools. The medical/safety/survival kit is another issue. I can use what I always used.

Thanks

I did the same thing. Just sold my 01 RMK 800. I guess I won't need a spark plug wrench since my 07 m1000 is EFI? But I did watch some video on the net where it showed using a wrench to separate the secondary ?(that may not be what it's called) to change the belt? Is this necessary or can I just muscle it over like I did with my RMK?
I'm worried since mine has no tool kit.

They are EFI not diesel! Still should have a plug wrench (though you may not use it much), just don't need a jet wrench.

Don't need a plug wrench cuz you can't get the frickin' thing on the plugs in a laydown cat engine anyway! I carry a 13/16 open end for that job. Way easier to sneak in under that hot pipe without coiming out with 3rd degree burns.

The standard tool kit that your sled came with would be a good start. Then like you said throw in a pair of vice grips, wire, zip ties etc.

But the basic tool kit works for most everything. They have a bunch of torx's head screws that hold heat shields and such. But they have a torx in your tool kit.

Also get a couple extra exhaust springs and some 88 tape, I like to have a "Good" philips and straight screwdriver also. The cat one is junk.

Sounds like you have done this already. But take your tool kit out and use it when you are doing your preseason work. If you find a spot that your tool kit can't get to. Then think about adding the right tool. For the most part you can do most of the "Trail" maintenance with the your stock tool kit.

I didn't mean that there were glow plugs just that I thought it would be harder to foul plugs with EFI as opposed to carbs. Then again I suppose that depends on fuel mixture.

you can muscle but that tool really makes a difference and makes it easy. They sell them on any cat site or any aftermarket site.

I know it's not part of tools list but always carry a beacon. As far as tools, it sounds like you got it covered. I would carry an extra belt and plugs/plug wrench even though it's EFI. You'll still run into both cases at times especially if you're a powder rider.

wrench set

Was your sled used? My 09 has the tool kit under the seat compared to the engine compartment on my 06.

You don't need a tool other than the socket or wrench to take out the secondary bolt. Take out the bolt, remove the washers, and put the bolt back in. It'll open up your clutch to take the belt off. Too much preload on the secondary of the 1000 to open it up by hand and get the belt off.

Tool kit should be right under the seat. Pop the seat off and there she will be.

Take bolt out, flip aluminum bushing around, put bolt back in. opens up the sheaves plenty.

Yes it's used with a Boss seat. I'll check for the tool kit when I get her back from shop.

She's also got a few mods on her, does the ECU still need the 09 update even with a Pure Logic controller, RKT heads and clutch cover, Speedwerx pipe? I should probably call the seller, pretty sure he's on here somewhere.

Aside from the usual wrenches and sockets, I carry:

Zip ties
Snips
Electrical tape
About 20' of stainless bailing wire
Duct tape
Vise Grips
Spring puller
Extendable magnet w/ led (saved me more than once)
Good flashlight (the Duracell brand ones are very bright, small, durable, and cheap)
50' climbing rope
Folding wood saw
Space blanket
Butane torch
Razor knife
Leatherman
and last but certainly not least: a siphon hose.
