Ok, need more help with 2003 RMK 800 VES

Hey guys,

Went to start my 03 RMK Edge 800 VES. 151" track the other night for the first time since putting it away in April to get it on the trailer to bring into the shop, and after pulling it a few times and it not firing, I pulled my plugs and found them oily and black. Threw in the new spares that I always keep in my sled when I'm riding in case I foul while riding. Before putting them in, I hooked them to the plug wires and pulled the rope and had good spark on both plugs. After putting them in, I tried starting a few times until I couldn't pull the rope more than a foot or so past where its recoiled resting spot is. I pulled the plugs again and without the plugs in, the sled turned over nice and easy. Put the plugs back in and tried again. After a few pulls, it wouldn't turn again, same thing as before. Im wondering if it couldn't be a sticky VES valve or something else along those lines? Before it would stop pulling, I could hear a good exhaust stroke coming out of the pipe.

Fuel Valve was open, and enough fuel to at least get it started and loaded on a two place tilt deck.

Any help would be appreciated. Wasn't really expecting this/wanting this happen now. Just my luck.

Thanks

Also, I looked in the air box to make sure that was clean, and it was. Nothing blocking the carb throats

Look on the exhaust side of the motor below the pipe almost at the bottom of the case. There are 2 small plugs ( 1 for each cylinder) that can be removed to drain the bottom of the motor. Should be 5/16 socket. Sounds to me like you may have the bottom full of gas or oil. Hydro lock after a couple of pulls.

Exhaust valves are closed until motor reaches 6000 RMP so it that was the problem you would hit them as soon as it turned over once. They only partially restrict the exhaust, never close it off.

i agree with bb454 sounds like your carbs drained gas into the case and the thing is flooded drain the gas out and she will probably fire rite up but you may have to have your needles and seats rebuilt to keep it rom happening again

Thanks to the both of you. I will have to get out there tomorrow after work and try it. How much fluid will be down there? Will I have to put any sort of fluid back in it?

if it's flooded, can be quite a bit. 2-4 oz. This is the bottom of the crank case, it supposed to be dry so you don't need to put anything back in it.

Yep agreed just let it drain till its empty and then put the plugs back in. If that was the problem it should fire up pretty quickly. Shut your fuel flow valve off when not using the sled to avoid it from happening again until you fix the carbs. I drove mine a long time before they got bad enough that i couldn't even go in and get gas and it would be flooded lol

Thanks guys that's exactly what it was amd that's what it took. Pulled those plugs and drained and put back in, started on second pull. Thanks again, I owe you both a beer or two.
