OK, I got to ask, What is the enjoyment of watching cars go in circles?

a lot of points here are the reason i like it. fast, close racing. indy/champ is also good like that. now F-1 is a different story. very fast cars, technological wonders, boring as all chit after about 5 minutes. 15 cars start, 7 crash in the first turn and are out. by the end there's 5 cars left in the race. 1st place is 8 minutes ahead of second, and 45 minutes ahead of 3rd. that's not racing, it's a time trial!!!!!!!!

Nascar bores the hell out of me, its ok for like 5 minutes then i have to change the channel, drag racing is ok some times, off road racing if pretty cool. You guys ever watch pinks, that show makes me laugh when they ask for like 15 lengths.

Why not?

I like a lot of different kinds of racing.
But NASCAR does a good job of explaining the strategies between teams.
Pit stops, drafting, mechanical issues, and yeah, wrecks ( although I don't watch for that reason).
The slightest mistake can cost a team a win.
Some of the best racing may be in positions below 5th. But I agree the announcers don't often focus on that.

Plus there's nothing much else going on in racing this time of year.
Now Indy500, now thats not very exciting IMO. That track is obsolete beyond the technology of the Indy cars.

Not bashing or anything like that. I just don't understand the allure of nascar. Why is it so special to watch a bunch of cars doing circles
What am i missing? Please enlighten me. lol

Tim,

There is your problem. They race on oval tracks, not circles. Now that you fully understand the sport I am sure you are already addicted to it. :D;)

Honestly I'm not into Nascar but I do enjoy watching it...used to make fun of it. For me, at first, I was ignorant to the stategy involved and didn't understand it...thus is was boring. Once I sat down and watched a few races, it became more exciting to watch simply because it is a chess match made for racing. Yes, if I want to watch a few laps of something motocross or formula 1 is the most exciting...but the conclusion of the Nascar racing is hard to rival in the world of racing itself. How many sports do you know that it's so even you can't predict who's got it with two laps left? Most racing you have a runaway...Nascar has perfected the art of a photo finish. That said, I'll watch it if it's on...but I don't make a day out of it.
