OK, I got to ask, What is the enjoyment of watching cars go in circles?

Not bashing or anything like that. I just don't understand the allure of nascar. Why is it so special to watch a bunch of cars doing circles
What am i missing? Please enlighten me. lol

what i like...

watching cars go around corners at over a 120mph 3-4 cars wide with only maybe a foot between them!

speed.

crashes.

sound.

and of course..

"BOOGITY, BOOGITY, BOOGITY, LETS GO RACIN' BOYS!" :D

some dont like racing, some do! its like asking, why do you like football. simple as that. :)

I am not into roundyround either.

When they had the Nascar at the grand prix here last summer, it was ok, because they had to turn in both directions..

Or how about 43 cars 200mph in the draft all within 2 seconds, inches apart, some of the highest tech cars, being able to feel the power at the start from the stands, the competition of some of the best drivers. I don't get it either. I'm still gonna go.

It's kind of like fishing or hunting-
Your waiting to catch a glimpse of THE BIG ONE. Not that I like to see it happen, but it is entertaining as long as the drivers are not hurt.
Nothin like a 20 car demo derby at 200 MPH!!!!

How do people watch baseball or worse yet golf on tv. Course the quickest way to put me to sleep is turn on the football game. Talk about the same thing, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and ..........

700 hundred ponies ...200 miles per hour .....inches apart ....hmmm why do I like Nascar anyways .....ummm cuz beer an hotdogs tastes great at Daytona on Sunday with 200,000 other people that like the same sh1t as me.......

and cuz Im a DRIVER .....

my bro in law said the same thing until we took him to a race. Now he watches every weekend.

I dont know what it is for me. The speed, sounds, smells, the personalities, its everything. Personally I like sprint car/dirt racing much better and thats another discussion in itself.

How about the first race you go to being the Brickyard 400. Walking into the track for qualifying/practice and a car comes down the front stretch doing 200 mph and the sound is like they are ripping the grandstands down as they go by. Then when you actually get a view of the cars as they go by, you blink and they are gone. The anticipation of the start of the race, and then 43 cars roar to life as the green flag drops. The sound is like no other.

Other than that it is just another 200 mph soap opera.

Yeah, I don't really get it either. I love competition, I love power and everything you guys mentioned, but there is so much more of it in other types of racing as compared to nascar.

I've tried many times to get into nascar, as I like pretty much every other type of racing, but there is no action, except for when they crash. That's it.

If you can get passed all of the European accents in F1, that really is the greatest type of racing from a technology aspect.

From an engineering view, it's rediculous. 2.4 L engines revving to 19000 RPM putting down 800 horsepower. They do 0-160-0 in 6 seconds, and under braking they can see 8 g's. 8 g's! gordon would pass out if he saw that. 3 or 4 g's in corners. as soon as they let off the throttle at 200 mph, they are deccelerating at 1 g due to drag. And, they can turn left AND right. and if you like close racing, not only are they inches apart, but they've got their wheels interlocked with each other while pulling these 4 g corners.

Also, Ferrari spends almost 200 million dollars building their car each YEAR.

Now, gordon did what? they called a yellow flag due to a hot dog wrapper? I don't know, just doesn't toot my horn.

I'm more of a Dirt track Outlaw Sprint Car fan (WOO World of Outlaws). Grew up watching the race track, something about the noise, power, The hesitation just before the flag drops. Oh yeah, spectacular crashes where guys walk away without a scratch. I got inot NASCAR a bit when Dale Sr. raced with the Wrangler logo on it. My uncle alwaqys scoffed NASCAR but that was because he was driving the truck hauling Gordon Johncock's Indy car from track to track when he was stateside. So we were primarily Indy and other open wheel race fans growing up. When Dale SR. crashed it brought alot of attention to NASCAR both good and bad. There was alot of mention how Sr. was the master of the Draft. After I saw how guys manuipulate the draft I got back into it. Oh yeah, did I mention the spectacular crashes that people walk away from without a scratch? Unfortunatly in racing you can wind up scarred for life by whitnessing someone die on the racetrack. Like several years ago during a mothersday Race when 2 people died out here at Huset's speedway when they collided and went over the wall at the entry gate hitting billboard poles.

i personally dont like nascar, i drive a wissota super stock and drove latemodel dirt racing is the best circle racing i believe less drama, if someone is in all my competion comes over and helps gives your parts whatever you need to race again now that is racing

Racing is one of those things you either love it or you hate it.

I think one of the reasons sooo many like it is there is a little bit of racer in all of us or at least anyone that has any level of competion. I'm sure we all have felt a little "racy" in our cars at one time or another and that gives us something to relate to. I used to feel the same way about golf till I started playing it. Now I enjoy watching it and I see it a whole different way. Same way with baseball. I watch a game and see the mental side of the game while my wife thinks its the most boring game ever played but she doesn't get it, she just sees the stick and ball part.

I agree, it is awesome!

I like all types of racing, snocross, motocross, ovals, drags..you name it I like it. But I gotta agree with some people, Nascar is a bore to me. At least on T.V., if I went and watched it in person my views and my opinions of Nascar may change. If I like to watch any sport of car racing it can be on dirt or F1. The only thing that pi$$es me off is Nascar is ALWAYS on Speed channel..I mean get your own station...
I went to my first sprint and stock car race last summer, and had a blast...thats where most Nascar guys got started. Funny car drags, and Fuel cars is also a blast though too..went to B.I.R. last year and met Johnny Force and his daughter Ashley(who is also hot in person:D) So that was really cool. Otherwise my heart is into sleds and bikes/quads. Nothing like that to me, and I just started racing cross-country this year..and had a blast.
I guess its all up to your tastes, and what you like. I don't pass judgement if you like it or not, to each their own! :D :D

The only thing worse than NASCAR is Drag racing... I just don't get it. You might as well stay home and play nintendo!

It's an easy sport to follow when your hammered. Look they're making a left turn, oh another left.

Haha. They should shake things up a little by telling them to turn around and race to the right about 10 minutes before the race. It would sure weed out the non-ambi-turners.

200 mph in a car? Yawn....

MOONMAN you have obviously never seen a funny car go 0-330mph in 1320ft cause there is nothing boring about that! I remember first time I saw it, wasn't that long ago, I stood there thinking holy sh$t that was fast. Again you can't truely appreciate how fast they go or how quick they do it till you see it happen. Think about it like this. In the amount of time it takes you to take 3 breaths of air they have already reached 330mph traveled 1320ft and are beginning to slow down. Trust me, it's far from boring.
