Lets discuss the oiless turbo options. I dont know that much about these turbo's other than they spooll up quickly and are expensive.
1. Are they worth the extra $$ ?
2. Are they proven ?
3. Is there tuning that would need to be changed ?
4. Who is running them now?
5. I assume you still need to cool them with coolant ?
6. What would be the cost comparison ?
7. Comparing Turbo's vs Costs?

My take.

1. Yes, much more convinient and cleaner having no tank, pump, wiring, leaky caps etc...
2. Built correctly they will outlast the life of the sled, we dont work these turbos hard on our two strokes at low boost.
3. Apples to apples, no. But you are getting in to newer/better technolgy, lets use garret for example and there oiled line, it is older technology, but they are on top finacially so im sure they dont care.
4. Me :face-icon-small-hap
5. Yes water cooled, typically larger coolant passages than a standard oiled.
6. Honestly i dont think cost are far apart. You need to keep in mind you are only looking at turbo sticker price and ignoring the pump and tank which get stuffed into the kit price. take a $1200 dollar gtx without housing, add a standard garret turbine housing $200. Actautor $100. Add an oil pump $150. Pay someone to tig up and oil tank $100. Your $1600-1700 ish.
7. Seeing how much most people get tied up into these turbo sleds, a few hundred either way is well worth going to the self lubed turbo.

One of the downfalls though is replacement parts are not in every turbo shop in town like a garret would be.

As far as i know you have Powderlites, Comp, Aerocharger, and KPA in the game. My choice is Powderlites.

I would really like to go oiless, I guess my only hold back is how much difference in tuning there would be with Justins 14 kit. Maybe Corey and Justin could chime in.

Which oil-less option are you leaning towards? They've been testing with the KPA oil-less so there shouldn't be any tuning issues there, just a matter of waiting until they release them.

Below is my opinion and my opinion only from a Silber dealer prospective.

1. Are they worth the extra $$ ? Depends, If you have the money then Yes, If not then no

2. Are they proven ? Yes

3. Is there tuning that would need to be changed ? All tuning was done with a kPa, Self lube or traditional lube makes no difference.

4. Who is running them now? Dealers and a few close friends.

5. I assume you still need to cool them with coolant ? Yes

6. What would be the cost comparison ? To soon to pin it down but I would estimate 500 dollar upgrade over the standard kPa.

7. Comparing Turbo's vs Costs? If cost is a concern stay with the traditional lube setup.

Corey, when you say $500 upgrade is that what it would cost to upgrade an oiled kit you already have to oil less or what the oil less kit will cost compared to the oiled kit new? I understand its an estimate just using the $500 to make it easy to explain the question.

Heck yea if its a matter of sending in my old turbo as trade and a 500.00 check to upgrade I'm in. Corey can this happen or are we not understanding this. I'm at the office today give me a shout 402 339 0550 Mike.

Now if I could just get one. Its my understanding that maby just maby in February or march they will be available for sale due to some dumb patent bs.

My 500 was just a guesstimate and it would be over the cost of a new kPa. This center section will not fit the non kPa turbos unless you have a garrett.

I also got some questions now when im looking to charge my pro.

What companies does offer a Oiless turbo as an option?

Also is there anyone out there both with Vipec and Oiless. Then i would be properly intrested!

Cheers :laser:

Hm turbos has both of those options.

Id like to stick to a non Aerocharger due to im living in Sweden. Dont think we have anyone over here that has or can overhaul a Aerocharger, so it could be quite expensive if that would occur.
